Key programming

I’ve a D3 key for a car I once owned that was lost but has turned up again.
Can I get a blade cut and reprogram the key using my Idd, or are they a once only use?

Hi

That’s got me thinking as I thought u could re program keys more than once , but know ur considerably more experienced than myself Bow down

Also don’t know if the CJB has a maximum amount of times it will accept a new key

Please wait until someone that actually knows these things comes along. I’ve dredged that out of a dim and distant memory, plus been on the beer. Whistle

Hi

I need to eat some humble pie as ur spot on, they can’t be over written , sincere apologises Bow down

The transponder is powered by a rechargeable battery and is contained within the processor on the PCB, which also controls the remote operation of the Central Locking System (CLS). A separate coil on the PCB is used by the transponder to receive the signals from the transponder coil on the ignition switch. The coil is also used to generate the current required to recharge the battery.
The transponder has a 256 byte Electronic Erasable Programmable Read Only Memory (EEPROM), which is programmed with vehicle identification data and a unique identification code. This information is stored in one of 30 key 'slots' within the CJB. When energized, the transponder emits the coded information which is received by the CJB. The CJB checks that the key is valid by confirming the received data before granting permission to start the engine.

******The information programmed into the transponder cannot be overwritten. If a key is lost or is no longer required, T4 can be used to disable the key to prevent it being used on the vehicle.*****

Just to update:: couldn’t program existing key. So purchased a fob from eBay £14.99 and that programmed immediately, then had the key cut from a photo from-Keys in the Post through EBay £17.99,
Fitted the newly cut blade into new fob, and have a fully working 2nd key.

D3 keys cannot be re-programmed, D4 keys can
 It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.
