Kids independence

Okay, I am the first to admit it, I enjoy time with the kids, a lot of time! I am a mate or so I thought! Big Cry

My bubble was burst this afternoon. I said to them, let’s go for a run in the car and a walk. Oh yes, that’s a good idea came the reply.

Next the 10 year old asked me to to fix something and whilst I was doing that, him and his 18 year old brother took off in his car with out a, “would you like to come?” I then got a text saying they are heading to Rogie Falls, which is about half an hour away on the Ullapool road and not to look for the dog, it went with them. Evil or Very Mad

Talk about Billy no mates! Banging Head

You're parents, not friends or mates or pals. Parents.

We pick our friends but not our family, as the saying goes...

Have to agree, as my late father always reminded me of my place in the family order Shocked

Still respect him for that to this day as the giant and rock that we could rely on.

Ah well, I know I am old’ish anyway. Most people when they retire put their feet up, not me I’ve got the kids. Means I’ve got more time to devote to them I suppose, I’ve certainly got more tolerance.

Might disagree with trying to be friends with them. Yes, I get taken for a mug at times, but it’s hard growing up today, so I’ve every sympathy with them.

Do they get spoilt, yes without question I am ashamed to say. They can have what they want and they don’t get chores. I’d blush if I told you exactly what they don’t do. Embarassed

I think its great to hear someone say they actually like their kids, it does seem so many are a nuisance. If you want my opinion they had a laugh with you because they could in a way they would with a mate.

I've always had a good relationship with mine (I think Confused ) Although the eldest left home at 18 and 3 weeks old is now 19 and a half and is about to buy his first home and I reckon we get on far better now as we make the most of when he comes home every couple of weeks or so. The biggest issue was coming to terms with him having changed you can't expect the same as when he lived at our home (his country home as he calls it!)

What I'm impressed with though is the 18 year old taking the younger sibling out Laughing

Yep, he takes his younger brother out in his car. It’s always a bonus when the young one finds his own way home, but he has the instinct of a cat! Laughing

Only kidding or am I?

They enjoyed themselves yesterday.

I was thinking about one of the wife’s colleagues daughter. She is 17, she had just passed her test recently. She told her mum she was going to Ullapool for a couple of hours in the car. She should have been home at 4pm, turned in at 11pm. She’d gone to Ullapool okay, but continued north along the NC500 to Tounge then to Wick and down the A9. Evidently the phone reception wasn’t good. Shocked

Eldest surpassed himself yesterday. Told me his car needed petrol. My hint to give him money for fuel despite him having a part time job.

Anyway, bunged him £40, he went off, filled it up and came back with the receipt for £40.23 and asked me for the 23p. I was stunned, just gave it to him in coppers. Rolling Eyes

He paid £45 in cash - so he had a fiver more than you gave him - and then demanded the 23p so that his petrol was free for him. And you gave him the 23p.

Don't ever use the insult "snowflake" about others - you're breeding your own. Big Cry
