you will probably get away with it, as long as you don't do loads of miles with the noise

Does anyone know if there's a guide for getting to the cam tensioner please can't seem to find 1.

follow this to get the cover off.

https://www.rrsport.co.uk/forum/topic55373.html

you need to work out which side is making the noise

driver side is easier.

you maybe able to lift one cam up (if drivers side) to slot the new tensioner in

If its the passenger side, its a lot of awkward work

Update,

After a few choice words and sore knuckles Laughing

Stripped passenger side rocker cover and its the bottom plastic part of the chain tensioner that's gone, bits of it dotted around.
Going to get parts ordered and hoping I can undo one of the cams and slot the new tensioner in.

Hi Josh, before you start major works on the engine as I said in my first post check the cam/ valve timing as it may have slipped a tooth on a cam drive sprocket when the chain was loose, best of luck to you.

Regards Dave.

Hi Dave, the chain was still tight it was the bottom plastic part of the tensioner that had broke. And I had to remove one of the camshafts to fit the tensioner and set the shafts at the right alignment

Out of interest what condition was the underside of the inlets like, as the swirl valves can break up - see the bottom one on the picture below nearest to the inlet - it has fallen out completely on this car I replaced it with another

That had a rattle to it until changed

I asked before, but did not see a reaction on that...Did you cut open the old oil filter? (The one who was fitted when the knocking started)?
Dropping the sump can not tell you enough... the inside of the oil filter.. does
 Best regards

Hi Motolab, forgot to do that before Embarassed, just cut the filter apart and didn't find anything in it.

So nothing like this? After draining the filter for a few hours?

See first picture in a topic of mine..

https://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/debris-oil-filter-186126.html

If not you maybe can rule out big end and main bearing damage... although can depend on the miles it did run with a rattle/knock..
 Best regards
Harold

Update
Stripped it all once again. Check main bearings and there is no sign of them spinning.
