So I have looked at an 08 TDV6. The owner claims the engines are bullet proof and properly maintained they don;t go bang.

Other than a general level of acceptable breakages, assuming proper maintenance, are the 08 cars susceptible to broken cranks? I thought ALL the cars, both TDV6 and SDV6 were at risk!

More likely to throw its timing belt tensioner out the side if it’s not had the later oil pump fitted! Crank risk is there, but small risk.

Kinda curious with this also. I have an 08 but with the late D3-4 trimmings. Was there a year from when the larger pump was introduced?

Added- as I understand that I can’t tell without taking a load of stuff apart to check.

Yeah right. Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter And don’t believe that old chestnut that if the engine goes bang then it’s got to be down to poor maintenance. That’s complete and utter bolldocks. Thumbs Up

Yes. Any TDV6/SDV6 engine can go bang.

See this is what I thought, but people seem to disagree.

I am wondering now though whether a snapped crank is such bad news as its possible to buy a new crank and not a whole engine.

Of course he disagrees, he wants to sell you his D3. Thumbs Up

AFAIK there are many theories why the cranks snap but what is uncontested is a. They snap, b. New (replacement) engine time.

Hi

See Brit car are also quoting

These parts are particularly significant, as Land Rover do not provide any parts for the crankshaft and pistons for this engine – they will only supply a replacement short block.

Saw the 2.7 cranks on island as well , think they were around £720

3.0 litre were £1,800.00
