Have been asked for more details so here is all I know(about this)
Sorry cant reply to PM as
PM send button has been stolen please return it Shocked

The car was plugged into computer. There seemed to be a metal box with a pipe in and out about snall shoe box size sitting on front cowl dont know what it was plugged into.
Mine was also getting a new battery and a sport was parked next to mine getting test done. A lot of rev..idle etc they said mine would be next and would take 40 mins (mostly to get engine warm I suspe t)as they were still changing battery i went for a light lunch expecting to return mid test but after 15 mins I returned it was all done.

They did add 500ml of oil(free) so i guess test required oil to max.

Not much else to say. I am sure some people can track the test code which was on the paper to find more info

In my discussions with JLR, I brought this testing up. 3 times they have said 'It's not JLR UK, therefore they cannot comment on it'.

After these recent comments following the test, I raised it again. Here is their reply:

'Whilst my colleague XXX has noted that we cannot comment across markets, this also is the case for diagnostic times and as such would not be able to advise of what the time frame would be for diagnosis outside of the UK. For the UK market however, in order to confirm that the engine would require replacement they would need to strip the engine components down and submit to Land Rover to confirm that this should be the case.'

The way I read this, someone in lying.

Either

JLR UK does know how to, and can run a test to determine whether the crankshaft is likely to be faulty and cause a catastrophic engine failure

or

In response to a demand from the powers that be in Korea, they have come up with this 'test' as lip service to appease them.

I see your pump has arrived Wink I guess you are planning on before and after oil pressure tests? Would be very interested in your results.

interesting thread, for all the wrong reasons. Shocked

I've just bought a 2014 D4 HSE from a member from this here site.

Got to say this thread is slightly worrying. Certainly when read with RNClaytons experience "broken down"
The car I bought is low mileage, well looked after by LR, so um is there anything that can be done to prevent it / fix it / warranty against it ? (Apart from selling the car.)

Just read RNClayton's other thread - broken down. Shocked holy Censored

Lots of us have decided to invest in warranties to mitigate against the cost of a fatal problem occurring. Which raises an interesting point. If LR UK were to issue an official recall over this, this would make any claims potentially invalid under the T&Cs of many warranty providers (i.e. fault caused by defect subject to manufacturer recall)

I can't see that "yeah it's fine" slip of paper convincing them otherwise Question

Currently my Disco (I'm the third owner now) has no warranty, all the servicing has been done by LR to the factory schedule, is it possible to get a warranty to cover the car now ?

Or am I out of luck now Sad

You could try Warranty Direct who will cover the crank and many other things that Land Rover Approved warranty will not - https://www.warrantydirect.co.uk/?apc=1378...gLaJvD_BwE

£288.65 for standard core cover, doesn't call out crank specifically, just "engine".

If it covers it, then it's a helluva lot better than the bill on Rnclayton's broken down thread. Warranty still has a 30% Customer Contribution To Parts which is still going to hurt, just less so.

Retail price of a 3.0 engine is now £6180 + VAT, so a 30% contribution works out a little over £2k

Not a bad outcome, should the worst happen

From RNClaytons thread here https://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/broke-down25th-feb-179300-150.html

and I don't know how much it all cost him in the end - but I expect it was eye watering, but JLR quote "£14000+VAT to replace engine. "

That's quite a bit more than 7416 gross retail, or is that just for the engine ? vs JLR quoting engine and labour ?

I may not be comparing apples to apples.

Has that price come down? And how much is fitting at JLR labour rate?
