I don’t understand your comment? You keep saying sales are up sales are up like a DFS advert. Yet LR are talking about needing big savings, not sure what Porsche has to do with that to be honest. I made a comment that where there would have been a car park full of LR products there was one newish one yet an awful lot of Ford, Toyota and Mitsubishi it is the 80s all over again for LR.

In our village there used to be around 15 Land Rover products, Defender, Range River Discovery Freelander, Evoque, most of which were updated recently, there are now three! One new RR, one Freelander and a Defender, all the rest now have other makes of SUV or 4x4, including Toyota, BMW, Honda, Mitsubishi, Nissan and a Bentley!

The main reason people have changed to other makes is reliability and that include me!

The engine catastrophically failed on my 2016 landmark at just over twenty thousand miles and two and a half years old, so it’s gone and so after nearly 25 years of Land Rover ownership, in its place is a BMW X5, and diesel at that.

Same with my daughter's school. Prime target market for LR but LR products are being replaced by Volvos, Q7, Q5, Mitsubishi PHEV, a couple of Rextons from the horsey set and Tesla's. Interesting how things have changed in the past few years. Reliability, pricing and customer service have pushed most away. Quite a few older D3/4 still plodding along though.

I’ve read all the threads on this subject and the one obvious question that has not been asked, unless I am missing something -

If the problem is bearing shells moving (a simple design fix) and was common knowledge 10 years ago why was a fix not applied 9 ½ years ago…….

Then LR put their hands up, address any damage to cars caused before the fix and move on.

As I say – I must have missed something. Whistle

I hadn't filled in the gap Embarassed Laughing My point is that the sudden drop in sales isn't because of broken cranks or looks ...rapidly changing market conditions do result in a necessary realignment of costs ...overall though the company is in a far better condition than years past.

Poor reliability and customer service can't be helping though.

Very true and the reason a lot of loyal long term customers move to different brands when it’s time to replace, regardless of frequency of change, and the double whammy is that when people swap brands they invariably don’t recommend the previous one.

Still not sure what that has to do with Porsche. They have stuck with a design that goes across the range, is 70 years old and makes lots of money. The cars are very good in their niches they haven’t made a me too model even in the Cayenne. They are a sports car company and even the Cayenne drives like one. LR very much have a USP like Porsche but they don’t have the service or possibly the engineering to back it up.

It's a brave man who claims that 'rapidly changing market conditions' are the root cause of poor sales, especially when the wider SUV market has exploded with growth. Other manufacturers have been quick to fill the gap provided by the head-in-the-sand-mode muppets at JLR.

I can of course categorically state that this particular JLR customer has decided that poor designs, descending quality, lamentable customer service and escalating prices have prevented me from dropping a large cash sum on another new JLR vehicle.

I suspect I am not alone and that JLR are indifferent to such customer flight, preferring to staple their future to a different market that manage to change more rapidly than JLR predicted. Ooops.

No conspiracy .....because you separated 'turnover' into 'turn over' I initially read a different meaning in conjunction with vanity Wink

I'm not pretending that JLR don't have issues, some of which are below the line compared to other manufacturers...they do have an problem with customer service which they could learn off others ...they are in a cycle of significant change which will hopefully transfer into a better experience for many.

I stand by the most recent difficulties as being industry wide though.

So how do you guys think they propose to visually inspect for bearing wear without being too intrusive ?
Also once the vehicle has been inspected does that mean an engine failure of this nature isn't going to occur, given that regular and correct maintenance etc has been carried out since the inspection

Huh, April 2019? What an amazing coincidence as the JLR financial year 2018/2019 ends in March 2019.... Whistle Whistle Whistle Whistle

Thumbs Up

Yes it would. Perhaps there is or will be a TSB out on TOPIx that is marked company confidential and in Chinese. Laughing
