Minus 22C or 23C is standard for winter screen wash at all the supermarkets and DIY places here. It works out at about 35 pence per litre at current exchange rates. Last night temperatutes in parts of Poland were down to minus 20C so it is needed here.

I have 50% screenwash, yet no wash this morning.
Right hand of heated screen didn't work (could see left hand working fine)
Neither nozzle defrosted on the bonnet (neither around nor on-top) ; they did do both last year).
Heated Screen
Plugged in Ammeter into fuses for heated screen - both sides drawing in excess of 20A (limit of my meter) so why is only one side defrosting?
Hot Nozzles (Not porno)
Relay for heated nozzles/mirrors is ticking nicely. When relay clicks on, nozzle current starts at 0.5A and drops over 5 seconds to 0.25. That's about 6Watts with a 50% duty cycle, so call it 3Watts of heating. No wonder they didn't defrost. I wonder why they're still drawing current though if they've blown?
Washer
Couldn't find fuse for washer pump; but then I assumed it was in the BJB and not the CJB. I'll try F11 in the CJB later and see what the state of play is for that. Probably blown as no pump motor noise at all.
Hot Reflections(still not porno)
The heated mirrors were both nice and toasty, which is kinda ironic as they were totally frost free to start with (-8C here this morning).
I pulled/reseated all the fuses/relays (all my large square fuses in the BJB were sitting 2mm higher than seated for some reason!) but no change.
I was wondering about getting some of those LED fuses (light up when they blow) but then I saw the cost of them and thought I'd rather spend that on diesel for the FBH Dr. Ian Malcolm:

yep, blew a fuse again, -8 when out this morning with 75% concentration, will remember to out a 15amp one in rather than the 10amp originally fitted.
Just as well I bought a stack of them and other fuses at the weekend

Best way not to blow your fuse is not to hold the button down for ages. Just give it a quick press now and again to see if the pump whirrs.

LOL not so much scientific, more playing with a new digital ammeter I bought from Maplin this morning - it replaces a fuse in the fusebox and displays its current draw up to 20A.
Looks like my washer pump was frozen after all; it's warmed up to -5 and now it works again. Well it whirs, but doesn't squirt. Guess it's not as 50% as I thought it was in the bottle.
For the record, 8.4A at start up, 4A running. Technically these may be the values for pumping ice slush rather than water though.
On another point - smeggin hell! I've looked into the CJB fuse box before and thought it was tight - but when it's time to actually get a hand in there to reach a fuse, it's crazy! I needed some surgical sculpting to get my hand in to F11 - luckily LR provided plenty of sharp edges in there to help me achieve my quest Dr. Ian Malcolm:

hey simon, I did after around 3 hours of driving
Couldnt be bothered, then got escorted by VOSA to an inspection site off the A55, so made me excuses and said I would have it sorted, happy with that as we were completely legal in all other aspects, just picking on car transporter drivers today it would appear, poor love -5 outside, me I sat in the warm with me FB on

Has one of the elec /mechanical wizzes on here ever taken the pump / valve apart - I am guessing it a single pump with three way solenoid valve ?

My windscreen washers haven't worked for a couple of days and I put it down to either being frozen or empty. I called into Tesco's and bought some lunch, 2.5L of screenwash and 2 litres of cheepo water to top it up. Tried the washers again but no luck. Lunch was OK though
Unfortunately, my Stealer is right next door to where I work and as the car is still under the Land Rover (well, Car Care extended) warranty I thought I'd make it their problem. Fair play, the new fuse and labour for fitting was paid for by Car Care. Incredibly, the £35 for a diagnostic test was not!!!!!! How could a mechanic find a fault if he didn't look for it or run a diagnostic? Possibly, "use the force"?
This is just a rip off and I feel as if I have been conned or at the very least "had a a £35 lesson".
Next time I'll read this forum before doing anything to the Disco. A 20 pence fuse and 2 minutes of effort would have solved the problem.
