Any recommendations on a site? Must be very dog and family friendly, handy for walks, running etc, and by a lake would be nice Smile

Bowness campsite accommodates all of the above. Never stayed there, but walk my dog by it every morning!

The Keswick camping and caravanning club site is brilliant although how "family friendly" do you require

There is a play park, but no pool/games room etc like some commercial sites. The field is literally 50yards from the lake.

You can walk from the site up cat bells, round derwent water and up skiddaw if you are particularly fit! 5 minute walk in to town, and there is a booths supermarket for supplies right outside too.
Thumbs Up

It's our favourite site.

Have a look at Skelwith Fold. It would tick a lot of your boxes.

Waterfoot Park, Pooley Bridge (Ullswater). Dog friendly pubs in the village, Ullswarer steamers, Hellvellyn, Catsty Cam & Glenridding on ferry. Good walk back to Pooley from Glenridding via Howtown. Thumbs Up (If full Parkfoot is a good backup)

Skelwith is great, the kids can roam for even and the dog walk out the back gate has the best views you can ask for. No lake but there is a National Trust property on Windermere you can get to in 10 minutes.

Meathorp near Grange over Sands is a CC site nice and close to the sea (big lake)

Coniston is another CC site and very near the water

Castlerigg is on a hill but the views of Derwent water are great.

Never stayed at the Keswick C&C site but its really local to everything and some great pubs in the town.

And yes it will rain , who cares its the Lakes Thumbs Up

I didn't really rate ravenglass, it was in the middle of nowhere and you either had to go south and round or across the hardknot pass to get to the rest of the lakes. No supermarkets near by either.

The site owner also had a go at me when I unhitched my trailer and wheeled it on to my pitch rather than reverse it, telling me "if you can't reverse a trailer you shouldn't be towing one"

Sorry Censored for brains, I passed my B+E so yes, I can tow a trailer. I can also reverse a trailer. But unfortunately my trailer is so small that you can't see it in the mirrors, and by the time it appears it has swung to far round to recover. Hence I wheel it if having to reverse in to a bay.

Yawn
