Falmer Chalk, having been through a warranty dispute of my own I really sympathise with you. And your warranty was twice what I paid for mine so that's even worse. If you do go down the ombudsman route, I'd be really interested to hear how it works out. I waited weeks for an investigation to conclude and although they sided with me they (by their own admission) were apparently powerless to make the warranty company actually conform or change their stance. This was about 3 years ago.

Good luck Thumbs Up

I had exactly the same issue on my D3 when it was 4/5 yrs old and on a LR Extended Warranty.
What made it even more infuriating is the fact that the rear AC pipes are wrapped in a type of grey pipe protector. This is spongy and holds water, hence why they corrode.

Now that Land Rover are shifting production to lower cost countries then they too will have the margin to pay for a 7 year/100,000 mile extended warranty within the purchase price of the car. I’m sure that LR will be relieved to drop the commitment to unlimited mileage cover.

No, the extra money will go to Tata Motors, JLR is scheduled to pay a 25% dividend in FY19 up 5 percentage points from FY2018. TM isn’t doing so well in the Indian market so they’re happy someone is shoveling cash to them. Thumbs Up

I had a warrantywise warranty when I needed to replace my engine. They refused everything and added delays, although to be honest, with what the main dealers did it isn’t really surprising. I ended up finding an e mail address for Quentin Wilson and within an hour I had the MD on the phine, and whilst they didn’t pay out, they refunded all premiums.

To be a bit contentious, does any company cover corrosion on a 10 year old car?

I understand the basic issues but the Land Rover Extended Warranty is offered for any Land Rover upto ten years old and 100,000 Miles... they have offered it to me as my car is currently under both of those...
Next year it won’t be eligible...

To me this is a breach of contract...I have fulfilled the eligibility, they offered me the policy which I accepted at huge cost... ( it is an insurance policy ) ...
now they are looking to repudiate a genuine claim using a play on words to support their argument..in reality they could apply those same meanings to repudiate every claim...

I would like people to know that’s how this OEM policy treat genuine people...

‘ deterioration such as discolouration alteration or deforming of parts due to normal aging’
If they don’t cover anything that deteriorates then nothing is covered as everything deteriorates at some point.
I don’t suppose you read the 20 pages of T&Cs before you took the policy out. Whistle

Hence the point above....their limitations are therefore more prevalent on a vehicle over ten years old hence why they don’t cover it ...
My argument is they therefore have the risk on anything younger and should therefore honour the claim...
This is them just welching out on the deal by using a play on words...

They have the right to change their t and c’s every year upon renewal of the contract so if there is a particular item which is causing them pain on a particular model then they have the opportunity to alter the terms and exclude that specific item...

I just feel here they have taken the Censored and breached the contract...

LR are not interested and for the future never will be, the customer will always foot the cost and grievance, they like all manufacturers are overstretching so out comes the penny pinching, and move production to a cheaper country.
I for one will not buy another, just from principle for me.

Unfortunately, we just wind up with people swapping between manufacturers, in the search for the elusive Holy Grail of perfect warranty support. I remember someone on the Freelander 2 Forum being upset by his manufacturer support, who then went and bought a new Ford instead! Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter

He will now learn to understand, at his cost, what rubbish customer support and unbelievable rejected warranty claims really means!! Laughing

To give you an example of proper warranty rejection, from the real professionals at Ford, I bought a new Focus RS in 2010. After a few months, I bought roof bars for it; to fit the bars, you remove four small covers in the roof and use bolts to attach the bars to threaded nuts that are welded into the roof panel. Unfortunately, due to sloppy body assembly, these threaded nuts were completely filled with rigid sealant.

I contacted Ford to ask for the body shop to clear out the threads so that I could use my roof bars. Ford refused to authorise the work. Remember that this was one of Ford’s premium RS Range, was over £30,000 and I was the first owner of this 2-3 month old example.

Their reason to refuse the claim? “It (this fault) has never been reported by anyone else before, so it can’t be a problem”. No negotiation, nothing Censored

The sealant proved too difficult to remove and I was never able to use the roof bars.

My one previous experience of Ford involved the dealer refusing to carry out any warranty work (from the very beginning) on a brand new Transit, unless we paid in full at the start, with the hope of a refund if the warranty claim was eventually accepted by Ford!! Censored

Alternatively, just try asking BMW for an out of warranty good will payment on a 4 year old 520d with a snapped “fitted for life” cam chain and a destroyed engine and see how far you get!! Rolling with laughter You can forget about squabbling over 40% contributions, as you’ll get sweet FA.

Land Rover are complete saints in comparison Thumbs Up

Thanks

just read through this and it has made up my mind as to whether to give JLR money for extending the warranty on our 3 year old Disco commercial, seems money better put into the piggy bank in case something goes wrong! At least the pig pays out when threatened with a hammer Very Happy
Gave up on the 4 after 9 months, tried a Defender 110 and now have an orange 3.2 Ranger Wildtrack!! since changed to a Stinger Yellow Ram 1500 Hemi
