just read through this and it has made up my mind as to whether to give JLR money for extending the warranty on our 3 year old Disco commercial, seems money better put into the piggy bank in case something goes wrong! At least the pig pays out when threatened with a hammer Very Happy

Warranty businesses are not there for us, they make a profit. So as far as value for money go's you are more likely to pay less over a driving career if you hold on to your cash and pay for repairs yourself. You also get to choose who does your repairs and weather or not you want to leave it for a bit and sort it later during a service. The risk is you might get the BIG BILL at a time you can't afford it and on the other side you might end up in a legal battle and have to pay for both the repair and the lawyers.

I choose the hope and prey method but with LR I think the odds have not gone in my favour. Already in 3 months done more DIY than the old Nissan pathfinder in 12 years and 130K miles.

Ive owned a few cars over the last 30 years many of them Land Rovers, as has the wife and I have never had a warranty on any of them, had the usual odd minor issue, but nothing big.

I think OTT servicing really makes a difference to the longevity of any machine.

I do my own work generally as I don't trust most people to touch my cars, the only reason for a warranty is for major failures such as the turbos on my at the time new first of the 8 speed SDV6 D4 (the worst car I have ever had and I have had some horrors!!) at 2k miles which involved the complete removal of the front end, mine was one of three in the dealers workshop at the same time with the same problem. the AA Man with his can of WD40 announced that he seemed to be spending most of his time recovering dead Discos at that time and that the patch repair offered by Landrover wasn't working!!
Money staying in the bank awaiting the proverbial (and inevitable) rainy day!
Gave up on the 4 after 9 months, tried a Defender 110 and now have an orange 3.2 Ranger Wildtrack!! since changed to a Stinger Yellow Ram 1500 Hemi
