Oh yes, the TDV8 does like its turbos! Both blown on mine and a rear ARB actuator too...Visiting from rrsport.co.uk

If the 2.9 "Average days off the road" for the D3 refers to the average per month - then I would agree with that.
Good to see that the average bill for the D4 is greatly reduced over D3... time will tell Also Gone : MY14 D4 SDV6 HSE : Barolo Black + Almond
Sadly Gone : MY08 D3 TDV6 HSE : Stornoway + Alpaca + Privacy + BAS Remap

Sadly I suspect that's only because:
a) D4s are 0 to 5 years old but D3s are 5 to 11.
b) Owners of cars in-warranty won't necessarily know or count the cost of fixes.
I wonder if that explains the low cost for Sports, too. If most Sport owners have taken out the extortionate LR extended warranty, they won't include that cost within 'maintenance'. Went for a job as a human cannonball. Not the right calibre.

To be fair gents if mine only cost me £1243 + servicing per year to keep on the road I would be a happy man. I have owned the car for 41 days and spent over a £1800 on it ( or will have by the time the transfer box/ front diff problem is sorted in the next few weeks, it has been off the road at least 16 days with one fault or another. If I had to add on on the cost of the torque converter it would be substantially more. (The garage payed after a little negotiation, I think they did it to stop me "making a fuss" in the showroom ) All in all I knew what I was getting in to but maybe not all this so soon

It's only extortionate if you don't claim. LR's warranty paid out more each year than it cost so it was good value for me. Starter motors (x3), alternator, turbos (x3), rear dynamic anti roll bar, air compressor, power steering pump, steering rack and lower column, rear diff all replaced under the warranty. Granted some of those items needed replacing because of the full LR service history lavished on the vehicle but even so, I'd have been grumpy without the warranty.
I'd consider the Sport to be very high maintenance!Visiting from rrsport.co.uk

That makes my point, RRSTDV8: experiences like yours mean the published average will be seriously low. Went for a job as a human cannonball. Not the right calibre.

I would guess that Disco owners are more "hands on" where maintenance is concerned and so less inclined to warranties on older vehicles. Most Sport owners are worried about big wheels and detailing; they're more likely to have a warranty. I find this annoying because mine never gets polished and get muddy when it can!
Whatever the habits of the owners, I would expect any comparison of ownership costs to include warrantied repairs as well as cash repairs. Anything else is meaningless. I do wonder if the comparison shows higher D3 costs because D3s tend to be worked harder - both in terms of what they do but also in terms of being higher mileage. 100k mile RRS are still unusual I think (from the forum and adverts seen).
My RRS is now up to 105k miles and no longer covered by LR's warranty (or any other warranty). It'll be interesting to see what the next 12 months brings. It'll be about 130k miles this time next year. An unusual RRS I'm sure.Visiting from rrsport.co.uk

So if you combine the D3 & D4 and average it to give a fair comparison it's 17.5%, so no different in reality, which isn't a shock really

Well spotted (so long as the sample sizes per year are reasonably similar). Went for a job as a human cannonball. Not the right calibre.
