Its par for the course for the Daily mail, another bitter story by bitter journalists aimed at the mails bitter readers. You shouldn't believe the Mail - it was the Mail that praised 'Mr. Hitler' in the 1930s!
Sorry if anyone on here is a Mail reader! D4 2014

Negative journalism with an insincere money making agenda, or am I missing something with this charity?
Which? is the largest consumer organisation in the UK, with over 1 million subscribers; I wonder how much the editors earns, ... You cannot freely read the "review"! Required is paid subs or "... download the Land Rover Discovery 3 (2004-2009) review in PDF format for £5.99".
The review goes: "...Worst of all is the Discovery 3. ... the worst-scoring vehicle of all ... " and the Which? survey finds Skoda make the most reliable vehicles followed by Lexus and Mazda. Kia Picanto was the more reliable of all cars.
I would rather be expedition in my D3 than in a Skoda, Lexus or Mazda. And fix the problems with LR ... in our extended Beta testing programme ... "None of Nature's landscapes are ugly so long as they are wild"

As Honda Dogs are fond of saying, you drive a D3 for it's capability and dispite its reliability (or lack thereof).
Wouldn't go to Tunisia in the Jazz but it's very useful bringing me back from the stealer when D3 throws a hissyfit.

Unless they drive Landy's who cares what they think or write? Let them drive their Skodas. Unfortunately there are too many idiots with a soap-box in this world, and the internet gives them a forum.

Lets face it, does a skoda owner have the same expectations as much a Land Rover owner, if they do then what the are they doing buying a Skoda? OK a Toyota may be (or is it?) more reliable but god they ain't half boring. If you were asked to go to the shops and take your pick between a D3 or a Prius I know which one I would take every time.
As for poor reliabilty, in 3 years and 60,000 miles I have only been towed in once and that was just for a loose earth cable, other things have been niggles but that is it really. Joined the BMWX5 45e group

The truth lies somewhere in the middle. From running 2 D3s I'd kind of agree with Which?, my D3 had had more faults than all of the other cars I've owned COMBINED since 1988! If it wasn't so capable and such a superb all round car I'd have ditched it after 3 years without hesitation. I certainly wouldn't automatically buy a D4! From my experiences build or component quality is rubbish, but on the flip side of the coin my parents have an 06 D3 Metropolis that had had only couple of faults, aerial wire cut on manufacture and airbag light on. You pays yet money and takes your chance. At the moment I have one D3 fully up & running and the other waiting to get booked into the stealer as it needs 4 way alignment. Jazz hasn't had a single thing go wrong in almost 3 years from new.
