You should look at Warranty Direct, which covers wear and tear and crankshaft failure.

That’s very interesting, as I’m debating what Warranty to go for, if I decide to hang on to my D4, which is looking increasingly likely
Do you have it in writing from LR that the crank is covered?

But doesn’t the wording in the Car Care plan warranty exclude known faults?
Hopefully you will never need to claim for one anyway.

Best get specific confirmation of Crankshaft catastrophic failure being covered. No one has managed to get it. In fact, they have received confirmation that it isn't.Gary

Well before extending the warranty I spoke to the dealership the warranty company and it’s stated that as long as it as full service history the crank failure is a component failure and Landrover will replace FOC as you have also taken out their approved warranty

Did the warranty company provide written confirmation of that?2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2
2015 - 2017: 2 x D4
2017 to date: FFRR SDV8

To quote the warranty guru DSL
PPS Found it:
Design Faults and Recalls Any damage to parts, which are being recalled by the vehicle’s manufacturer or which have inherent design faults are not covered by this Warranty

Fortunately, I didn't have to deal with a crankshaft but I had both cracked inlet manifolds replaced FOC on my D4 (in two separate claims 6 months apart) as a result of the LR extended warranty. This is an analogous situation in that the cracked inlet manifolds are also a "known design fault".
The way the dealer explained it to me was that they submit a claim to the extended warranty company knowing that the warranty company will formally reject it but there is an agreement between LR and the warranty company that if a failure is excluded by the warranty company on the grounds that it is a "known fault" then the dealer can forward the rejection letter to LR and LR will then foot the bill.
When mine went in for the first one, I got a RRS hire car provided by the extended warranty until my car had been diagnosed then because it was no longer covered by the warranty I had to return it and swap to a dealer provided courtesy car while the work was finished - all at zero cost to me (except paying for the warranty and a full main dealer service history). MY2019 D5 HSE 3.0 SDV6 - sold to a dealer for a crazy price! - So good I bought another!
