Good point about the bushes, my top rear bushes have not been changed from new, they where given an advisory on the MOT but I cannot see anything wrong with them or have any worn symptoms, but is it just possible the rubber has become weak purely through age and use. Obviously something happens when when a change down into first gear is made in certain circumstances/conditions.

It would be interesting is to create a league chart of how many miles vehicles have done since this bump started, this would help to determine the reliability and consequences of what to expect in the future with vehicle that have the issue.

I have had it for about 10k miles, started about 80k and it has not got worse.

Fair comment Mikey, so what is your prognosis of the cause?

Didn't Pat release a software update a while ago to help reduce this thump?
ZF/LR did actually.

We've provided it for a few customers and on our own D3 (V8, 110 k miles at the time) which is my daily driver. Completely cured it on ours and so far customers have had pretty good success. Of course, a firmware update doesn't fix mechanical issues. We do believe, however, that it's not a bad idea to try it out before replacing expensive parts.

Edit: It was pretty severe on ours, more like a BANG then a thump!

But nobody seems to know which part. The gear-box update did clear it on mine for a while but it has returned Evil or Very Mad, Mikey has eliminated most things including wishbone components.

My opinion is it has got to be when the gearbox changes into first gear, probably worn synchromesh, otherwise it would do it at other speeds and gears when braking and then accelerating, it does not do it in sport mode as sport mode does not select first gear when slowing down unless it is selected manually, but this does not explain why DM's still does it.

I thought that the gearbox didn't change down to 1st unless at a complete stop?

Skynet:
That is in sport mode unless you select first, in auto it does, that is why I said it didn't bump in sport mode.
I have the latest gb software installed via GAP IID tool and there are several noticeable improvements in gear changes.

Knowing and supplying the latest version that is suitable for your gearbox version is all part of the Gap Iid tool service. Thumbs Up
