Yes 7 inch well technically Double Din, it is a cheap unit off eBay I haven’t yet connected the audio output to my Aux In but my main drive was for a reversing camera screen and a basic sat Nav.

Out of the box it does Apple and Android screen mirroring, I’m going to try one of the CarPlay USB dongles.

This is the type of unit I bought although not from this seller https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/313144239652

Thanks.

By any chance have you tried the mirror link? I bought one off Amazon that was supposed to do mirroring but it didn't work. There was a really convoluted method, putting it into development mode etc, but still didn't work. I ended up just getting a refund.

Also, whats the user interface like, tge one on the one I got was really naff. I have fitted a Pioneer HU so I have a rear view camera but the viewing angle isn't great. The plan would be to probably do the same and just have the top screen for camera, sat nav, IID (when I can afford one) etc if mirroring works, I can do all that and also answer calls but have them go through the HU using BT on my phone.

The interface is fine you just swipe left and you get a tablet like display for each of the apps.

I have tried the mirroring from my iPhone which once you have got the headunit connected to your phone the mirroring is quite simple and connecting to the hotspot on the phone was easy enough. The only problem with mirror link is the resolution of the phone doesn’t necessarily scale too well.

I’ve ordered a USB adapter to try CarPlay out, I have an up coming trip from Suffolk to Anglesey so will give a report on performance.

I just need to find the wire for the reversing lights to get the camera wired in.

Just an update on this, the £25 CarPlay dongle turned up today and gave it a whirl so now have a CarPlay compatible screen for under £100.

Used the headunit with the CarPlay adapter for a round trip from Suffolk to Anglesey earlier in the week and I have to say it was great.

I had a couple of times where where I got out the car at rest stops and disconnected the phone and then reconnected it where it didn’t automatically kick in to CarPlay but that was easily solved by starting the app on the headunit. If I had paid more than £100 that might have annoyed me but for the price point I cannot complain with how it has performed.

Thanks for the update, did you plug in the reversing camera yet, and how does the screen perform in terms of sunlight?

The screen was fine in the sun over the last few days what helps is that Waze on CarPlay uses a grey screen.

Have wired the reversing camera in and again the screen if fine but the camera itself is a bit crap but I did buy the cheapest one I could.

Yes I’ll do som research on a better camera, as you say for the money you can’t go wrong with it.

This is tidy but I'm pretty sure you can't see the tow ball with it if that matters to you.

There are plenty of better camera's out there too, perhaps these for example.
