My latest purchase.

We have had a Disco 4 in the household fleet for 4 years, but I’ve just added a Disco 3 to it.

There is most definitely an elementary of man maths about the purchase, it is a combination of wanting to have a back up tow car after a silly failure on the D4 almost stopped us going on holiday, plus having just started doing some green lanes I decided I didn’t want to go getting the D4 all scratched.

I was originally looking for a Disco 2 but a mate spotted a cheap D3 on the lr4x4 forum, it had a very short MOT and the owner didn’t have the time to sort the faults to get the MOT done. The main one being a handbrake fault.

So yesterday I picked up this.

Which is a 2006 (cheaper tax) manual D3 S with 114k on the clock, same family owned from new I even have the original purchase receipt from 2006 from our now defunct local Land Rover dealer.

The things it needs doing, resolve the parking brake fault which appears to have been the XYZ switch needing calibrated I know it will probably need a clutch soon, the suspension compressor needs replacing or refurbish I haven’t decided which route to take on that yet.

I am also going to need to do the cambelt as well.

Finally a quick snap from the green lane trip that started me doing this track over Christmas.

Well got a set of plates fitted yesterday, and got a MOT on it today.

As a treat broke out the IID and updated the Bluetooth software, did the clock on the dash and enabled the 3 flash indicators.

Well work continues to progress on this.

Whilst it will mostly be used for lanes and stuff I have fitted a Tow Trust Towbar as I want to have a backup tow car, so got the bar and a second hand set of towing electrics fitted including moving over to a 13pin socket.

This weekend managed to get the suspension compressor rebuilt and refitted, whilst I haven’t driven anywhere have checked all the positions and it seems to be working ok..

I may order the bits for the Cambelt and Oil pump this week although I suspect Easter weekend will be spent doing other jobs rather than bits on the Disco.

Yes I really should have parked them better for that picture.

Given I am unlikely to be out on the lanes anytime soon this might get a full machine polish in the not to distant future.

Fixed one of my keys today, was a bit of a chore as the original housing for the blade didn’t quite fit the new fob.

At least the key looks a bit better now.

The weather was fair today so I decided to give the car a proper wash and polish, quite pleased with the results.

Have the parts to do the oil pump and belts, just need to buy the locking tools and the oil pump seal fitting tool.

This has been getting some care and attention of late.

Fitted a copy of the safari snorkel which for £75 I am quite pleased with.

Just as well it was cheap as need a new windscreen as well Crying or Very sad

Got my strobes fitted in the grill although still need to wire them up, undecided where to mount the switches for them.

Used it as a camper/tow car for a recent track day at Donnington, stopped at the Rothwell truck stop on the A14 which worked well.

Then through a mate managed to pick up some new wheels with 4 Pirelli Scorpions and 2 General Grabber ATs, the Scorpions will go on the D4 as that will need tyres soon being an impatient type I popped the 2 Grabbers on wheels and left the other 2 with the Scorpions so I could get the wheels on the car.

Happy with how the wheels look.

As I am going to be doing more camping in it for track days, currently deciding if I want a roof tent or not.

Little bit more work on the D3 today, finally got round to fitting the cheap Android double din I bought a few months ago.

The main reason for fitting was to get a reversing camera, but also managed to run Waze on it.
