Le clutch is le broken
I have a MY08 (build late 07) D3 Manual. It's a UK import (rare as rocking horse here).
It has 158k miles on the clock. I've only ever owned manuals, and frankly 250kk is "about right" for a clutch, especially one as small and wimpy as that behind the 2.7d in the D3. My problem is because they don't exist in Aus, none of the mechanics have done one.
Now, 10 years ago I'd have put it up on stands in the drive and done it myself, but having turned 50 the appeal for bench pressing a gearbox isn't as strong as it used to be. So, I'm after advice I can pass on to a mechanic who has such luxuries as a lift and transmission jack.
The fault as it appears is a slip between about 1900 and 2400 RPM at full noise in 3rd ->. That means in 6th going up a big hill when sitting at about 2k RPM in cruise control as well as me being a bit heavy footed at other times.
I've tried abusing it twice, once in 3rd and once in 5th. Both times it starts to slip about 2k, winds to about 2.3k and then it drops back down to whatever the speed dictates. I figure it's in early stage death.
I've never owned a vehicle with a dual mass flywheel before. What parts do I actually need to replace?

I did my clutch in 2022. I was over 50 at the time!
It's not the worst job for sure. Lowered the box down on a trolley jack.
Change the Friction Plate, the Clutch Cover, the Concentric Slave (release bearing) and the Dual Mass.
It's a job worth doing once, you don't want to have to do it again!

Looking at doing the whole lot (flywheel also). Anyone have an opinion on LOF products? They seem to do both the flywheel and a full clutch kit. I priced the "genuine" Landrover flywheel at nearly a thousand quid, which feels a bit spendy to me.
Clocked another 450km today and got the XY sensor fault, so now I have all the associated gremlins. I can see I'm not going to be able to put this off for much longer.

Recalibrated the XY sensor tonight. Just picked a quiet bit of road, put it in low and reverse and backed up until it went *bong*. Didn't even have to run up through the gears, although I did anyway. As soon as the chime went it immediately recognised what gear I was in with no delay.
Only getting the slip when really "on it" and I can drive around it. The fault popped up when I was overtaking a road train and absolutely nailing it in 5th. Wasn't paying attention to the car, just pushing as hard as I could and it was probably slipping a bit then.

Mine did exactly the same. Slipped at max torque (2000 rpm ish) in 5th and 6th. Only did it occasionally, so I put up with it for a long time. Eventually got around to changing the clutch, now no more slip!Richard
