Leaving my IID BT plugged in?
Hi, did a few searches on this but can't find anything.
I bought an obd extension lead with the intention of mounting the socket in a more convenient place for plugging in my IID BT. But then I noticed the port bracket on my D3 can be mounted in a vertical or horizontal position. In the horizontal position I can plug in my IID BT without risk of kicking it, so I wondered... could I just leave it plugged in?
Is there any problem leaving my IID plugged in (taking it out occasionally to update it) and just connecting to it with my phone when I need to?
Thanks in advance,
Ken

maybe it would flatten the battery
I wouldn't like to wear such an expensive device out

I left mine pretty much permanently plugged in, I can’t recall any issues. But that was a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away.

Two good points. To both I would ask if there is any significant difference to the electronics on the car which remain active even when the car is switched off. They do indeed flatten the battery eventually (I'll have to put my clamp meter on the obd supply and see what it draws), but as far as I'm aware they don't actually wear out.

Yeh, there's probably been upgrades since then. May I ask how long ago... and how far, far away?

My D3 died a grisly death in July (I think) 2017, 2,000 miles from home (Sortland, NE Norway) and she was given a Viking send off, well stripped before being scrapped.

GAP do not recommend the tool being plugged in longer than necessary and certainly not permanent. It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

I suppose if I'd looked in the front of the manual rather than trying to think up search terms for disco3.co.uk then I might have got to that answer without bothering you good people. My bad, sorry
