Could the relay have two channels - just wondering as both the Mirrors & Nozzles share the same relay - i.e. one channel per side?

Both the mirrors and jets are switched though a single contact on the relay R267 in the BJB.

At the risk of sounding even thicker:

Do you mean the bit in the centre console - the A/c system control? Embarassed

That said I can't see how the control unit might affect it, unless it controls the sides individually

Yup RM, aware of that, but does that relay have separate LH & RH out-put lines?

It seems that the ATCM also has an electrical load management feature designed to maintain the battery voltage to an acceptable level ...to achieve this it can therefore inhibit any of the operations it controls. Although it doesn't look like it has 2 channels for left and right I'm wondering whether it is able to inhibit the washer\mirror heaters on either side. Confused

Have you had your battery checked?

Yeh battery seems fine - pretty sure it's not that anyway as this has been happening pretty much from day 1 - it's only now I thought to mention it, it's more an annoying quirk than a problem but I'd still like to know why and if there's anyone else who has the same.

I usually start my car up, wait 15mins. and then get in and drive off. This morning though after a bit of a disagreement with SWMBO I stomped off and got in the car. Started it up and what I thought was a misted windscreen was frozen solid. -4 outside. Windscreen took nearly 2 mins to quickclear but it was even on both sides.
So sorry can't help much on the variation from LH to RH.

No, the output of the relay is connected to fuse 12 for the washer jets and 16 for the mirrors. After each fuse there is a single 1.5mm2 wire, eventually spliced into 2 0.75mm2 wires that route to either LH or RH mirror or washer jet.

MrH... No explaination, but this morning when I went out in the D3 there was frost on the bonnet, a ring of frost around the NS washer nozzle cleared quickly but the OS remained frosty for some time. Can't say I've noticed it before but thought I'd mention it.

Maybe you'll get to the bottom of this soon Smile
