My D3 is just about 3yrs/60000 kms and about to run out of warranty. It has been a wonderfully reliable vehicle.I have gone to considerable trouble to set it up as a great long distance tourer. I have been thinking of a tdv8 Sport but apart from the better engine the Sport would not be as amenable to modification when it comes to tyre choice /tyre carrier/long range tanks etc. The other option is to transfer the gear to another Disco.
How long do you guys expect your D3 to last before sellig?
If Land Rover offered extended warranty it would make life easier. Change would be good ;but I'm not sure that a Sport would fill the void after a D3. TDV6 HSE Zambezi/Tundra

I have always had a policy of changing my cars when they got to 3 years old (with my "old" cars going to SWMBO and hers going to some other needy charity (read family member).
I have had the D3 for a litte over a year now and I've got to say that this is the best vehicle I have ever owned and I am really starting to think that if it aint broke...
Do you think that getting rid of it is worth a re-think? I mean, if you have not had any problems (and 60,000 k's is just ticking over - Im up to 57,000 now) is it worth the heartache and expence
Anyway, just my 2c worth Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent.
Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent.
Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil?
Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?

I did a search on this, but no direct hit - is the TDV6 engine being replaced in a foreseeable future?

I'm just over 63,000km at two years, so I could be out mileage wise before time at this rate. It is a hard decision - one is terrified if something major went wrong outside warranty. Trade in is so important - or changeover pricing; to work out what to do.
I wondered about downsizing from the HSE to even a twin cab Defender, but I think this is a bit too radical and anyway, how can you go past the 6 speed auto?
The other problem is that once you drive these sorts of vehicles, most others (save an Aston Martin) appear to be mostly plastic junk and of no interest to ones motoring ideals.

I've had similar thoughts about what to do after 3 years. Mine is 3 years old next month with 72,000 km. Although I've hoped for an extended warrranty to eventuate from LRA but this hasn't occurred, I have decided to keep the D3 longer (how long is still a question in my mind) because to change it now and go through the hassles of transferring everything to another one is not worth the effort or the expense. Also what hit would you take trading in at a dealer for a new one - would you get less money for one that has been off-road?
Pros of new one:
1. 3 year warranty
2. All new and no regular servicing cost under Corporate Plan
3. Minor improvements over a 3 year old model
4. Insurance will replace with new vehicle in a total loss
Cons of new one:
1. Trade in loss (big $'s)
2. Transfer all accessories ($'s)
3. Return D3 to original after removing accessories ($'s)
4. No real change in technology (still largely the same D3 as 3 years ago)
Anyway some of my thoughts. The Pros still don't outweigh the cost to replace the old D3 IMHO.

Mine's 3 years old in 4 months time, but the warranty expired km wise last year.
I'll be hanging onto mine for the same reasons as Chris. It's too expensive to get a new one set up all over again. I'll probably look at changing after five or so years. Have a nice day!

Mine is just over 2 years old and 91 k on the clock. The 100k will come up long before the 3 years. I plan to keep it for a few more years. nothing to replace yet. 06 TDV6 SE with many LR and after-market extras. Used only on weekends and trips out west.

As Jamo says I'll hang on to mine for at least a couple of more years, it's done 123000Kms still going strong and fitted out for long distance touring, it would be too costly to change at the moment

Hi Integrale,
I visited Aarhus many years ago when visiting a Danish friend. I still have the Aarhus clock on the wall..the one that goes backwards regards

The extended warranty option has been covered in other posts but has been avoided here
To make your decision easier, you can get an additional 3yrs warranty for $1980 from Allianz. I'm still going through the policy wording myself but so far so good. If your vehicle has done less than 100,000km's within the extra 3 yr period then it should be easy to argue that it is not "normal wear and tear". My car is out of warranty in Nov and as long as I haven't done more than 100k by then (34k currently) and the car has regularly been serviced by LR then I can buy the policy from Purnells in Sydney as my local dealer in Melb won't touch it.
I like the PRO's that PCH mentions but the car remains essentially the same,... so why get rid of it. 5years sounds like the right time when an update comes out proper... What's the point.... it all comes out in the wash anyway!
