Light Bar Switch and Wiring Question

I have bought one of these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/281874562592 but I am not 100% sure how best to do the switch and wiring installation.

Can I plug it into the fog light loom (I don't have fog lights fitted) and just replace the lighting switch with a fog light switch or would I need to install a driving lamp switch and loom?

Any other suggestions gratefully received.

Many thanks.

Depends on how you will be using the light.

Best option if for road use is to wire it so it only comes on with main beam, via a relay.
I'd also fit an additional switch so you can decide to have the light bar on or not with the main beam.

Looks very much like the one I have.

Mine is wired via a relay and 3 way switch. One from the high beam, one off and one on.

I rarely use it tbh as its not technically legal anyway, but is too bright really as it blinds the on coming vehicles. Mine doesn't particularly improve the throw of the light but is brighter overall.

As has been said the lightbars are not great for long distance throw but they are great at slower speeds for lighting up the kamikaze deer waiting at the side of the road. I have mine switched off most of the time and only use it when on poor roads and little traffic.

Thanks for the tips so far.

I don't want it to light up with full beam headlights, I would prefer just to switch it on separately when I want it in dark lanes and off road.

I think I will have to get someone to wire it up for me. I don't know enough to be prepared to go cutting into any wires, which is why I thought plugging it straight into the fog light connector would be easiest.

If you have the full fog light loom, then it may be an easy enough option to do it that way.
Check if there is an empty connector behind the switch.

I brought one too
Fitted mine by buying a remote control loom from USA 2 connections to battery plug the switch receiver in to plug on other part of loom then that just leaves you one plug which I cut off crimped bullet connectors on and ran though the grill to the bar
The remote unit like a little garage electric door remote I put self adhesive Velcro on and sits by the radio/telephone spare blank on dash took about 1 hour to install

If you only want to turn it on separately, then you only need one switch (could fit a fog light switch, but it'd probably be more complicated anyway) and a relay. Thumbs Up

(NB: For road use, you must have it switched off by the main beam switch to be legal.)

Of the switch? No, but I can take one, but not much to see to be honest.

Having them manually switched on the road is a bit dodgy in my opinion - much easier to have it switched by the main beam as that is what you normally do - As I've said, I have both options and off, which is the default.

I did use them in anger last night over the Lincolnshire Wolds - and they throw about as far as the main beam - but are a lot brighter - biggest issue is when they go off as you can't see its so dark!

Thanks for the tips folks.

It seems that the best advice is that I ought to have it switched via the main beam with an isolator switch as well, so I will do that.

All I need to do now is figure out how! Rolling with laughter

My knowledge is such that saying 'wire it to the main beam' might as well be the instructions on how to build a flux capacitor, in Chinese. Rolling Eyes

Wiring could be something like this:

This would allow it to be switched on both independently and with the main beam. Thumbs Up

Main beam feeds to the light clusters are Blue/Slate and Blue/Black for the LH and RH respectively. Wink

Thanks Lost for Words.

I understand what that diagram means and if Disco_Mikey can't fit it for me, I will have a go myself. Thumbs Up

Cheers
