Is anyone local to this guy that knows how to use an oscilloscope ?, this would be the best way of testing voltage drop to the head lights using a low amps clamp connected to the scope, this way it can be recorded and sent to LR, also check the alternator output with it.

Thanks, you will see I live in Rotherham, but I work in Wakefield very near to M1 J39 if anybody is local to there as an alternative. Regards, David

Just out of interest, is the IID Tool capable of logging voltage as well as RPM? That way you could get a graph showing alternator output vs RPM.

Yes it can graph and log any live value together with any other(s).

Voltage, amperage, temp, RPM and ECU control signals are all relevant here.

I thought I would just update everybody on this post. Monday after waiting 3 weeks, the new alternator was fitted. The engineer took the vehicle home to test after dark. And I know you are all wondering if it solved the issue...... well, no it did not so they are back consulting with LR. So in total its been with the garage on 4 different occasions and for a total of 15 days. I can't understand why with there knowledge, LR backup and the computers why they can't diagnose the reason for the fault.

I will update again once I know more.

Sounds like it could be an earthing fault.
The X350 XJ jags had an earthing issue (connection to the bumper beam IIRC) that had the xenon lights flickering.

I am rather surprised and disappointed that LR have not found the cause for this.

LR dealer phoned me today. 2 Senior technicians from LR been to garage today to inspect. Whilst they saw the fault, they said that for this year of car and build its just what it does. They tried a RR Sport from the forecourt of similar age and say it does the same to demonstrate the point.

Is this plausible or are they b**l Sh****g?

They have asked that a battery monitor be fitted to the car so garage having it overnight to get that fitted.

Should I take it further and if so who with?

Has anybody else had a similar issue. Car is D4 MY12 , XS with a few extras.
