A little project..
With three kids now, even the Discovery was starting to strain under the volume of kit and peripherals (bikes etc) needed when we go off camping so decided to invest in a trailer. Lots of research (including here) lead me to Brenderup and over the winter picked up a bargain off fleabay.
It's the 2205 braked, came with the lid and was in near pristine condition. Mods to this have been
1) Addition of the roof rack for the bikes. These are Thule feet that fit on the D3 but procured some new longer bolts and plate washers (duly drilled and sealed through the lid) and, if needed, the same feet can be moved to the car easily.
2) Bought and fitted a spare wheel - will never have a puncture now!!!
3) Added a Triplelock locking hitch - awesome piece of kit but a pig to swap from the original Alko
Just taken it for its first run fully loaded and chuffed as nuts with the purchase and handy work. Next week, North Yorkshire!!
Cheers
John

That's super, good work. Solves the problem of reaching the roof with the bikes. Combined with the 591 carrier, loading the bikes must be a dawdle! 2007 Porsche Boxster (987) 2.7

Rob, I paid GBP 1,000 on fleabay and that included the trailer, lid and a set of extension sides. List on the same kit new was around GBP 2,200. I then traded the extensions (which had never been used) to my dealer towards the spare wheel and holder.

Very handy bit of kit, think i need to start looking for one of these.
Question from a complete novice though, what sort of braking system is fitted to these trailers (i.e. how does it operate) and is there a guide to legal towing weights etc online?2020 BMW X1 18d XDrive X-Line Auto

With the D3
unbraked, you can tow up to 750KG (inc weight of the trailer!)
braked, you can tow up to 3500kg (inc weight of the trailer) but the trailer will have a max permissable weight on it. It will be a plate which tells you the max weight. Single Axle will be less than a twin and a twin will generally be less than a triple.
Or you can also get the ex army sankey style trailers which have a different hitch, but are bound by the same weight restrictions.Bodsys Brake Bible
