a little survey mpg
rules
1 which petrol station esso,bp,shell etc
2 which diesal grade normal,extra etc
3 must reset all counters and average mpg at filling station
4 do exactly 200 miles and take reading
5 not to exceed 80 mph on motorway
6 state approx how many motorway miles and town miles in the 200 miles

just done the same trip this morning - forgot to reset the trip after a 50 mile pootle through cheshire lanes yesterday though so mpg is reading 26 and average mph is reading about 30 after 250 miles Steve N | 21MY Defender | 08MY Discovery 3 (history) | 06MY Discovery 3 (ancient history)

one tip, if you're only doing 65-70ish, dont put it in 6th gear, as it has to start working a bit harder, and MPG falls.

Hmm, yep I do have a boot full of equipment most of the week, but I meant a heavy right boot! ie. too much accelerator! Its gone down to 24.2 today! no motorways.

My advice is ignore the computer, its wrong. Fill the tank, do the miles, fill the tank again and work it out. 4.55 litres = 1 gallon.
The computer is surprisingly inaccurate, and not good for measuring short term fuel consumption. It is OK if you leave it for several thousand miles because it does average out eventually.
I keep a spreadsheet of all fuel and miles both business and private, and I know my actual average is 25.9 mpg. This is over 50,000 miles now and it does not alter any more.
