Live data info please

Hi guys,

Started a new thread as I’m not having much luck getting to the bottom of a fault with my car. Basically as some will know I’m now on about page 34 of my own thread but drawing a blank with the latest fault. I’ve got the dreaded “engine system fault” and have gone to limp a few times. I think I have a failing turbo or actuator. The actuator is free (I’ve made the coat hanger thing) and I can hear the car doing the actuator exercise on shut off. However sometimes it feels like there’s no boost and then other times it’s fine. I’ve checked all the intake and boost hoses. All appear fine. (Silicone upgrade on all three boost hoses) I did have a badly cracked allisport intercooler so I’ve put my original one back on. Yesterday I took swmbo to usk for a night in the cwrt bleddyn and the car was fantastic, then on the way home today back to sluggish and limp. Seemed better when it was hot. I just don’t know what to look for in the live data to help diagnose this fault. Could it be map sensor ? Turbo actuator ? Maff sensor ? Just getting confused. The spanner side is no problem. Engine management diagnostics is not my strong point.
When I get the “special programs off” and limp mode these are the codes I get on the iid.

P132B is an actuator fault

P0234 is a low boost pressure code

If your 100% satisfied the actuator arm is free, then it's looking like a turbo...

Hi Mikey thanks for replying.
That’s what I was afraid of. When I had the body off I checked and lubricated the actuator. Then day before yesterday I made up the wire thing and checked it and it felt free. Glad I did the fixings mod when the body off now ! But absolutely devastated that it looks like after all the work and money I’ve spent I need a new turbo. Plus I still have the dodgy injector issue. I could cry. I really could.

Anyone recommend the best place to get a turbo from ? Mikey do you ever get them from Bearmach ? Have anyone had success in having a rebuild ? Are actuators themselves available ?

Cheapest place I found was ECP. Not the trade price they quoted though, got it cheaper than that in the end Laughing

Don't know what discounts they can do in branch, but I think the last one I bought was a smidge over £700...

Whether they can still match that, I don't know

I have a mate who works on the trade counter in Bearmach so I’ll ring him also. Just a thought... would there be any chance that the crossover I had made might be too free flowing ? Could that cause some sort of pressure issue ?

New Borg Warner off site sponsor advanced factor with forum discount around £900 or abit cheaper when then run their 10% offers. Not the cheapest but less risk of future probs hopefully.
Had mine changed with body on off local indy for around £700 labour.
Good Luck Thumbs Up

Hi ceekay.
I’ve used af many times. They are fantastic. I’ll replace it myself. Quite happy that I did the fixings mod when I had the body off !!! I’m going to have a play with some penetrating fluid and the actuator arm tomorrow just to make sure but knowing my luck it’s knackered. I’ve just driven the car. Sluggish, like someone’s put an anchor and then limp, then restart, nail it. Drives like a train. Very random power loss so I would have thought if it was stuck or sticking it would be constant and not random.

Ah well I think that settles it. I’ve just driven the car with the radio off so I could listen. Pulling up a hill I could hear very clearly what sounds like the turbine or compressor blades rubbing the housing so guess the turbo is shot. Drove back home as gently as possible and parked her up. AGAIN. I’ll pull the turbo out and see what’s what. Devastated doesn’t come close to how I feel today.
