Living with a Disco 4
We all love a Disco 3 and 4 and I’m starting a YouTube channel that will feature my D4 quite heavily.
My first video is about how I’ve found living with it over the last 6 years and the actual costs associated with it in that time.
There’s loads of disinformation and fearmongering out there. I simply wanted to add a pragmatic and informed take on what real life ownership is like, particularly for one that is used for overlanding style travel.
You can watch the video on Youtube here -

Great video and ur greenlaning tours also look very informative in teaching from novices to experienced off road drivers out in the countryside 👍

Thank you! And yes, we're trying our best to get people who love the idea of greenlaning and off-roading out there and doing it!
We all know how much fun it is and it usually only takes a little bit of guidance and people are well on their way 💪

Ur so welcome as it’s justly deserved to see people teaching other in being responsible in not going off piste so to speak some ripping up lanes or hedges etc therefore giving every 4 x 4 drives a bad name leading to some of the lanes being trashed along with trees, bushes etc
Thks again making them and Look forward seeing some more videos

What an excellent video. Thank you for posting.
Your experience and view of the Discovery 4 pretty much mirrors mine, as I also have an early 2010MY.
In my nearly 3 years of ownership, I’ve had new discs& pads all round, new Pirelli Scorpions all round, an new oil cooler water outlet, a new fuel tank cradle, new heater matrix, and the near side plastic manifold replaced.
My vehicle has nearly done 140,000 miles, but is still a delight to drive. Like you, I’ve had expensive cars before (Audi’s, large Jaguar’s etc), and I don’t find the Discovery 4 any more costly to run.
Without any doubt in my mind, the Discovery 4 is the best vehicle I’ve owned in nearly 55 years of driving.
It is complex, but repairable. The rewards of running a good one are immense. To my mind it is the pinnacle of Land Rovers, and I’m hoping to be able to keep it running until I’m no longer able to drive.I’m a Disco 4 believer. What a vehicle!

Enjoyed that.
I've just come back to a D4 from a new Defender. There is still nothing that competes with it.
My first D3 I bought in 2005 and did 231,000 miles before I sold it 13 years later. I still regret it. Most stupidly reliable car I've ever had.
Let's hope LR learn from the mistakes of the D5 and look back to the D4 as the inspiration for the D6. However, I hold out little hope. D4 HSE EU6 (Known as Jeeves)
New Defender L663 110 SE (known as Noddy!) Sold
Sold Volvo XC90 R-Design (known as Basil)
Sold - D4 HSE (Known as Gerty)
No longer the Old Buses original owner
231,000 miles and counting
05 S manual owned from March 2005
D4 Face lifted
Still original injectors and turbo
V8 Front brakes
BAS Remap, Allisport Intercooler and deCat
EGRs blanked
T-Max split charge
Hanibal Expeedition rack
Prospeed ladder
Duratrac tyres
IID BT
BAS FBH control

we just got back from a trip to the tip of the Keweehaw peninsula in Michigan and took the D3 off on some trails, and it really is brilliant at two-tracking as we call it.Even had water over the hood-recalled reading somewhere that when you get into water like that you keep a bit of a bow wave going and your speed is right. Right now I'm on some cheap Petlas winter tires, shopping for some better all terrains and then we go attempt some other trails.
I still debate whether I'm keeping the 3 or upgrading to a 4, or if the "upgrade" is worth it.

Looks like a great video, thank you for sharing.
It has been added to my watch-later.
Have you seen the Norwegian chap named Kasper Høglund on YouTube?
He makes very good cinema and used to have a Discovery 4 overland rig too.

Likewise, little hope. I think it will be interesting, but not an SUV.
We've all read that it is likely to be an MPV.All the best,
Austin

Thanks for the comments guys 🙌
Great to hear the shared love for these machines. Perhaps not so surprising considering we are posting on the Disco 3 & 4 forum! ha. But still, it's all too easy to moan about what goes wrong with things rather than all the good and positive.
@AustinJMJ yes I have seen the content put together from Kasper and his now sold D4. He clearly had a very strong aesthetic vision of how he wanted to look and it certainly looked excellent. I can aim for his levels of videography in my future videos as they're beautifully put together!
@Icarus best vehicle I've owned no question. There are other cars I've had which hold some sentimental value and I enjoyed owning but none had the sheer breadth of talent the D4 has.
