Trying to sort out equipment in the middle of an unlit field is a challenge. Actually, even doing that with the car inside the garage is a challenge.

Why did you run a feed to there? Was it just for the switch? Is it possible to use the wiring for the luggage light itself?

Yes, just ran the feed down there so I could put a switch in and keep it removable / hidden. The actual feed to the strip is from the luggage light itself so that the lstrip goes on and off with the rest of the interior lights (so long as the added switch is on of course). In reality, as mentioned, I don't think that the added switch is really needed.
Edit: just realised that the pic of the switch is confusing as it's rotated through 90 degrees. I thought I'd sorted that when I posted

We spend several months of the year caravan camping and visit some pretty dark places but find the normal "boot light" sufficient - OK I am talking about our present car BUT it can not have lesser lights in the Discovery!
Unfortunately, the regular light is pretty pathetic as it's a small light and a very big boot. My previous car was better plus tend to find with the fold down tailgate that the area at the back is very usable... And I don't have a tin tent to retreat to!
Whatever we do, given the amount of light, you can be certain it's not clandestine any more

Did you get your strip light direct from Autolamps? I have been in contact with them and they quoted me £51 plus postage.

No, I got off of eBay. And it was about 46 gbp delivered but that did look pretty good. I did check the seller again and didn't have the same length in stock. Not sure if I should post links
