Apparently it is legal, but you may have trouble with insurance as they are not recommended and also they tend to burst when used off road.
If they are 19" RRS wheels, then the alloy is also underated.
I sold my set as it wasn't worth the hassle it could cause.

Not recommended..............It is an easy out of spec to be poulled up on if tyres were a contributory factor in an incident.
what is this about the wheel being underrated also?
Mine is running on the RRS wheel on the understanding the wheel is fine, as are a number of others?end of an era ....... maybe a Defender when it appears.......

OK
D3 alloys are rated @ 940kg, RRS at 900kg. I'm running RRS alloys.
For the UK, LR minimum tyre spec is 111, although I know that for Aus, its 110. I havnt seen anything lower than that though.

As Al said the RRS wheels are 900kg, not sure if it really affects it though, but tyre place selling MTR's said they were not correct spec and should only be used for off road.

AJS, they specialise in off road wheels and tyres. My dealer said the RRS wheels were fine with the 109 rated tyres as well
In reality I don't think it will matter, but I didn't want to take a risk with non spec wheels for insurance.
IMHO It's off road the under spec wheels are likely to give way as it's more likely you'll be driving at such angles that will place 75% or more of the vehicle weight ontp 2 wheels. However, chances are that they'll only crack off road and then actually give out when your bombing down the motorway.
I won't risk it since seeing photos of the possible results and being told some horror stories by a mate who's an insurance assessor. And for the eagle-eyed amongst you, yes I did have a set of non LR 18" wheels, but I no-longer have them since finding out the were rated below 900kg - thing is I really liked the look of them
Do a search on wheel and tyres rating and you should find a very detailed thread on which RRS wheels are suitable for the D3 - it's a much covered subjectLRs are a fond memory, apart from the maintenance.

easy answer - No RRS alloys are weight rated at 940kg, only 900kk, same for all FFRR. I may seem a bit of a hypocrite as I've always said dont go lower than 111 rated tyres on the D3, even though I'm running RRS alloys on mine (both 19's and 20's), but have 255/55x19 111V's on the 19's and 295/45x20 114V's on the 20's. I'm inclined to think a tyre is the weaker part of the wheel/tyre setup.
If you do the maths, 111 rated tyres, fully loaded get you into tachograph territory. And if you do have a problem, the tyre details are much more visible than the alloy rating.
And, how many of us add/change bits on our cars - it would be a very sterile world if we left them standard.

In Oz its 109. Not that I would fit anything with that low rating to a 3 tonne D3.06 TDV6 SE with many LR and after-market extras. Used only on weekends and trips out west.

I'm running Contis 275/50/R20 109W which IMHO are man enough for the job but thats not what counts its how your insurance see it. If you are involved in a crash that resulted from a blow out you could find yourself in poo street but if you where involved in a crash and tyres played no part in it i.e running a red light then whats the problem? I'm sure someone in the insurance industry will be along soon to set the record straight.

Is this correct? I thought FFRR wheels were okay on D3? Not that this is necessarily reassuring, my stealer didn't see a problem with using (current spec.) FFRR wheels on a D3.
Std tyres on my S model were 111 rated, standard wheels 940KG, Locally you cannot run below those numbers without being classed unroadworthy and giving your insurance company an option to deny a claim. As it is a four wheel drive you are allowed to run any speed rating over 140km/h, ADR's apply, But it is best to stick with factory numbers as a minimum.TDV6

In Oz we do not have autobarns, so a 109 rated tyre has a speed rating in excess of eney of our speed limits.
Even the NT now has a max speed limit of 130 km/hr, but you do have to use some discression here.
High speed tyres have little tread depth and lightly constructed so they build up less heat, so can go faster also have lower load capacity.
Off road tyres because of their heavy construction run hotter with speed so the speed restrictions are on them. also have higher load rateings.
So some common sence comes into play

I think your insurance company would be on shakey ground trying to deny a claim with this attached to the vehicle:
