How do you lock with tailgate open, without horn sounding

After walking my dogs the other night I thought I would call in the pub for a sneaky shandy before going home.
I left my dogs in thier crate in the boot of my D3 but did not lock it as I wanted to sit on the tailgate enjoying the sun.
I was there about 45mins & when I went start her up, she struggled but burst into life. After looking through the forum I think this was due to her being in wake up mode.

The only way I can see to avoid this in the future is to lock her up with the tailgate open, I tried this but it causes the horn to sound, making everybody in earshot turn and look at you. Whistle

Does anybody know if it is possible to lock the doors but leave the tailgate open and not have the horn sounding.

It could be that having the tailgate open means all your interior lights are on.

Before you settle down for your drink open the drivers door and press (I think) the middle button on the interior lights above the rearview mirror. This will then turn all the lights off. Also make sure your keys are not left in the ignition.

I do what you describe fairly often without any issues.

Have just given it a whirl and the middle button does switch the lights off, many thanks.

Next time I have a sneaky one, I will test it fully.

Out of interest, is it possible to lock her while a door is open, without the horn sounding.

Leaving a door or the tailgate open shouldn't run the battery flat - even if you don't switch them off by pressing the button, they switch off automatically after a few minutes (10 or 15?) to save the battery.

Did you leave the key in the ignition? That stops the D3 from "going to sleep" and runs the battery down quite quickly - it's amazing how much current all the electronics draw.

Don't think there is any way to lock the car with a door open without the horn sounding.

I might have possibly left the keys in the ignition Whistle

Just to be on the safe side I have bought a new battery anyway, as I dont know how old the battery that was on there is, she is 4 years old in Sept.

Was going to get one ready for the winter anyway as she wasnt happy with the -2 the other morning.

If you press the middle button and hold it for several seconds the interior lights will flash twice - you can then open and close the doors as many times as you like and the interior light will stay off - repeat the procedure to switch them back to auto mode Thumbs Up
