Locking wheel nut

Hi I was doing the correct thing, moving the wheels around and checking the spare was OK and the winding mechanism worked. Also hoped to have a good look round underneath,
Anyway could not find the unlocking socket for the locking wheel nut. Went back to the dealer where it was serviced. They did not have one in their master set. Had to borrow one from a customers Disco 4. Anyway bought a new one and went back to workshop to do what I had started. The offside rear locking nut would not come undone, The socket just ground away and would not pick up the back of the locking bolt. Back to the dealer to get it off, I am going to replace them with the non locking nuts. I have told the dealer that I am not going to pay for the work because they were the last ones to take the wheels off, if they did!! Anyone else had problems with the locking wheel nuts. Not the disco's fault ( I just luv it)

Locking Wheels nuts

My dealer was great. Lancaster Reading. Took 4 hours to take off the offending locking nut. Put 4 new wheel nuts on ( non locking) No charge. Just a bit of heat damage on wheels. I am really pleased. I can now change the wheels and do the swapping of the wheels around to increase tyre life. Good job I read my manual or else I would have had to use my break down cover to get Land rover back.

Just don't use the LR jack to change the wheels, it's only an absolute emergency only jack. Decent high lift trolley jack is the best, lots of chatter here re jacks.
