Looking for a Power supply but only when engine is running.

As tiltle says I am installing a second battery and looking for a power supply to charge a relay that connects the batteries together but I only want this when the engine is running.
The LR Warn winch only gets power with the Key in position 2 and the remote connected.
I just want power if the engine is running prefferably under the bonnet.

Any ideas?

Thanks

I have plenty of power under the bonnet as I have a V8. What I am looking for is an electrical power source to switch over a relais that connects both batteries.

Somebody here will know, I hope.

Use a voltage sensing relay which activates when the cranking battery volts reach a predetermined level, i.e. when the alternator is charging.

Will ignition on rather than actually engine running do? If so just use the ignition feed from the fuse box to the winch solenoid under the battery to trigger your relay

I think the compressor only works with the engine on not sure if that is a signal or 12V.

Is it possible to get a signal to activate a relay from the CANBUS?

yes, but it's more cost-effective to use a VDR as above

Would there be a signal for when the DSC is disengaged?

one of the two relays in the n/s boot will do the trick, on a disco 3 its either the red/white, or plain red i think but check with a meter! (assume its the fuel pump relay!)

I found one under the bonnet for mine. In the main fusebox by the battery. I used a meter to test them all with engine off (ignition on) and then again with engine running. Can't for the life of me remember which number fuse it was though but there definitely is one.
