Loss of power and now won’t start

Hi, I was driving my lr3 yesterday and it was fine until I pulled out of a junction and noticed a loss of power and the engine sounded rough. I had to drive for about 1 mile to be able to park safely. I turned the engine off but then it would not start. There was no warning lights at all. I had the aa out but he couldn’t do anything and had to be recovered. Any help will be very appreciated.

2007 models are prone to oil pump mounting failures which destroys the engine.

The oil pump should be changed when the cambelt is done.

However as you managed to to carry on driving for a mile you maybe lucky.
It’s worth checking the engine front cover. On drivers side. Half way down for any signs of a 2 inch hole

Also check there isn’t a significant oil leak under the engine

I have had a look and can’t see any signs of a hole in the cover and no oil anywhere .

Maybe wrong but you can’t see the oil pump without stripping down the front of the engine ?

A lot of times when the oil pump let's go the belt tensioner is slammed through the cam belt casing and that's what Pete K is referring to. Since that's not happened in this case you will have to remove the top fan shroud, fan, drive belt, coolant pipes, and crank pulley to get the cover off for inspection. It's not a big job and can be done with basic tools by a novice.
The only awkward bit being the fan pulley, but this too can be removed without the special tool and a little imagination. Once it's off if there's a major failing it will be immediately obvious Thumbs Up

Hi, the garage is sayIng the engine is turning over fine and they want to but a new cam sensor on at a cost of £270 but I am not convinced thats the problem and I have ask them to check for cam belt problem. Would a bad sensor stop it for starting ?

A faulty cam sensor can prevent it starting, but have they dtc's to support that diagnosis?

Mike has previously said the cam sensors are very reliable.

and this code can be an indication of cambelt slipped etc Sad

You can remove the oil cap and see the cam through the hole.
Can you see it moving when trying to start the car ?

The cam sensor is located on the left bank behind the EGR and picks up it's pulse signal from the rear of the cam belt pulley. So they need to check the timing has not slipped in the presence of a cam sensor dtc.

I really don’t think the cam sensor is the problem but will hopefully be proved wrong . I think the cam belt has slipped 😩

I would try a Oil temp sensor first, when these fail allsorts of funny errors pop up.

Flack Thumbs Up
