Lower coolant hose oil leak

Evening clever people,
Was investigating an annoying knock from the front end and found an oil leak on the steering rack.

But it looks like it's coming from higher up.

What's your opinion on where this leak was coming from. I thought it might be from the lower intercooler hose. But it looks like it's higher up.

Thanks for your help!

Chris

That intercooler hose lower connection is quite a common place for an oil leak, and the one the other side Laughing There is generally some oil build up in there, and if the clip is not tight enough, it will leak and spread all over the place. Clean it all up and check the hose for condition, if ok, refit the hose and tighten the clip a bit more. It could also be leakage from the auto box oil cooler hoses that connect to the radiator higher up on that side, again probably clips need tightening up, and gearbox oil level may need checking also if loss is significant. Thumbs Up

Thanks Moo will keep it in mind!

DN, thanks for the response I will take the lower pipe of and see what the condition of it is. Will also see if I can get better access to the higher up pipe as well.

On a side note I thought there was no way to check the gearbox oil level?

Thanks
Chris

You might be able to see and access the g/box oil cooler hoses (there are 2) from the top, near the coolant reservoir. The g/box oil level can be checked, but it’s a bit of a pain, the oil has be be at a certain temperature (IID tool handy for this), with engine running and fill plug taken out, then fill if necessary until oil comes out of fill hole.

Morning all,
I swapped the hoses but the more I look at it the intercooler hoses look ok.

I can't find a diagram but is that pipe on the picture above a coolant pipe? It goes to the white unit pictured in the second image.

Also the last small house to be swapped - that behind the metal heat shield on the list image?

Thanks again for any help.
