LPG mod for 4.0L V6 petrol LR4 |
|
I own an HSE 4.0L V6 petrol LR4 which was originally registered in Canada in 2011 but has spent the vast majority of its life in the UAE, where I live and have owned it for the last 3 years. 200,000km on the clock and in good condition. I am about to return to the UK, and I'm tempted to import it and modify it to LPG to keep the running costs down. I have read various threads about the pros and cons of LPG conversions, but most of these relate to V8 engines. Does anyone have any experience of the 4.0L V6 (is it an old Jaguar or Ford engine?) - I realise it will probably be a unique LR4 in the UK. Can anyone recommend a good LPG conversion kit and modifier please?

It’s a Ford engine as I understand it.
I think you will be opening yourself up for trouble converting to LPG, as I recall reading a topic a while back from a fellow in Canada I think who swapped out the dying engine from same model for a us spec ranger v6 engine which was the same block different head I think. Reason he changed was valve gear related from memory and this is why I suggest that your plan could be trouble!
See if you can find the topic using the search?

I am pretty sure it is the same engine they fitted in the Ford Explorer, I had 2 converted to LPG and no real problems.
The valve train problem is probably timing chain wear which they can suffer from,if I remember there was a fix for that.
Good luck
