LT - I did look for reassurance from my dealer by email regarding the V6 crankshaft bearing shell lottery. 'It is covered' by my approved used LR warranty. Also the most recent build models don't have the issue....

The last part there in your post. Was there any mention of specific year, or spec is safe?

Don’t have the issue......really? First time Ive heard that. Like to hear the fix before I get the flags outJoined the BMWX5 45e group
1994 Defender 90
2015 RRS Corris Grey/Black roof
2016 D4 Graphite Santorini Black
2012 D4 XS Orkney Grey
2005 D3 S Maya Gold
I can only quote the email. When I asked about Crankshaft failure with D3 and D4’s and if still a prob with D5 –
Having asked the service manager about this he said that yes it has carried through but it has been addressed in newer cars or you could consider the TD6 (straight six)
This is great news

Page 21 of the warranty terms & conditions state:
11. Design Faults and Recalls Any damage to parts, which are being recalled by
the vehicle’s manufacturer or which have inherent design faults are not
covered by this Warranty
They hand the issue back to JLR customer services, who you then have to negotiate with, who suggest the manufacturers warranty is only 3 years...

Yes I would love the issue to have gone away.

Aye, the Td6 in the D5 is the same engine as the D4 with one less turbo. It’s a V6! The SDV6 in the D5 is the D4 engine again, V6 twin turbo, with the power turned up. Great that they know what they are talking about

Or as the dealer will tell you, “No sir, that’s not correct you can’t believe everything you read on the internet and the handbook is generic so it doesn’t apply to your car. “DS3 TDV6 HSE - Silver with Alpaca (old one) Gone

I totally agree with the above...
Three months ago we bought an approved used Evoque for my wife...15 plate with only 9000 miles on..perfect we thought for her commute for a few years...
Went approved used rather than private for the supposed peace of mind.... how wrong we were!!
Couple of weeks ago water started dripping over the central console.... after a few days this turned into a deluge that would pour over you when going around corners...the final straw was when it started turning on the interior lights by itself and the airbag passenger light as you turned....
Clearly a perfect reason to ring LRA... the tech came out and immediately recognised its significance and arranged a replacement vehicle. Ours was taken to the local dealer for repair.... two days later the dealer rang to say that yes the windscreen seal had failed totally and significantly allowing the water ingress...despite that this was still the factory original screen fitted at time of manufacture!!
Then the good part..... was then told that the Approved Warranty (bearing in mind we’ve only owned this car for less than three months) does not cover water ingress...
We were told they would not pay for any damage caused whatsover and we would be responsible for the costs of removing the screen and replacing it...this was going to charge us £200 for the pleasure!!
We would also be responsible for the full price of the new screen if indeed they couldn’t get the old one out intact! As you all know this would amount to many hundreds of pounds more!
Totally disgusted with JLR and I drove my car out of their dealership to get it done privately! Can’t believe that yet again the public have to pay for failings of the manufacturer!
This is seriously questioning my loyalty to the brand.... (having 4 of them on the drive, for various family members) and is erring my decisions towards my replacement L494 RRS to a different manufacturer!
Livid from Kent!
Don’t bother with LR extended warranty....it’s worthless.

If it’s under 3 months from purchase, you should have been protected by the sale of goods act (or whatever it’s called now) - fault was underlying.
I would be presenting them with the final bill or claiming action.
