Just obtained quote from LR insurance. The quotation documents sent to me include the info that the vehicle has a Thatcham Cat 1 alarm fitted in addition to the factory fitted system. I called LR insurance to say that this isn’t true it does not have a Thatcham system, it only has a factory fitted system. Call centre person tells me they have to put the Thatcham system in otherwise the system won’t quote, but not to worry.
So, in a few weeks time my vehicle is stolen. I, according to the documentation, told them it had a Thatcham alarm fitted when it didn’t. Insurer refuses to pay out I assume.
Doesn’t fill you full of confidence does it?

If that's the case then it would make me more relaxed about taking the quote. Having said that the Thatcham info was included in a section of the form headed '...... other than the manufacturer's standard fitment'.
Insurers always stress the need for complete and accurate info, and are always looking for ways not to pay. Yet here they are wilfully completing a form incorrectly.
If it wasn't a goood quote I'd give up right now.

Had it since new - sold Jun 17 after 12 years and 214,000 miles

I'm attracted to LR Insurance cause of the off road cover, however their quote is £480 vs £218 from Privilege renewal. Does anyone else do "off road" cover??

NFU have this as part of the cover... as they are insurers for farmers and commercial.. they expect their customers to use their vehicles off road

As far as I'm aware noone does it as stand alone cover. I'm with NFU as the policy is very good, with insurance you have to compare like with like. Even without the off road cover it is a good deal. The call centre is in Scotland and the staff are very helpful. DS3 TDV6 HSE - Silver with Alpaca (old one) Gone

I used my local office in Ludlow... they insure many many local farmers and most of the LR leaving the dealer round the corner.
Their attitude is... its insured as long as you not racing or doing time trials. LR go off road so they are covered.

My quote from LR Insurance was £370. As suggested I tried NFU, they came in at £416.
I'll get copies of the policy wordings so as to compare coverage and then decide.

mmm depends on where you live and I think on how local the staff are... my NFU office is round the corner from Shukers and most of their business are farmers and locals. They know that my post code has nothing to do with where I live.
Post office have me pegged as Kidderminster which is pretty rough compared to the village / very small town I live... and its closer to Ludlow than it is Kidderminster.
See if they know exactly where your house is rather than relying on the computers post code search... reduces your premium amazingly.
