The 4.0 V6 petrol engine was only ever fitted to the D3/LR3.
In the D4/LR4 line up, in about 2014 the V8 was replaced by the 3.0 Supercharged V6 Jaguar AJ126 engine.
The 4.0 V6 Cologne engine was not fitted to the D4/LR4.

Well I own 3 LR4 with the 4.0 for cologne engine. These are the golf specs cars. Supercharger won’t survive long in sandy environment. Also I have checked a lot of them and all V8 LR4’s had engine issues. Some how and because of it’s simplicity the V6 Ford is stronger. Unfortunately not so fast at accelerating as V8.

I have a 2011 LR4 V6 petrol, originally registered in Canada but now in the UAE. Reliable but thirsty. Does anyone have any experience of converting this engine and running on LPG? (for use in the UK)

It’s a USA ford cologne engine. Same as in a Ford Explorer. In Netherlands I have already got 2 quotes to convert to LPG. Both round 2500€ with warranty etc.. they place the gas tank in space of your spare wheel.

"Philipatkins" I don't know about your version of the V6 gasoline engine but I know that mine (2007 LR3 4.0L SOHC Cologne) is a fairly easy conversion in Canada, but with gasoline prices pretty low I wouldn't bother. These vehicles are not known for their fuel economy, and converting to LPG may just be a waste of time and money. I understand that most Europeans opt for the diesel versions, is there some reason you desperately want to use gasoline or LPG? 1967 Ford Bronco 289 V8 (1968)

In NL converting is only advantageous if you drive more then 15000 kilometre per year. The reason is because we pay more taxes if you drive LPG.
We call it here: sigaar from own box. Or: cookie from own dough.

hi thanks for comments. Yes you are correct it is a Ford Cologne 4.0L engine - seems like they are quite rare in an LR4. Reason I am considering doing the conversion is because I am thinking about importing the car to the UK when I move back soon from UAE. clearly this would reduce fuel costs (even though petrol is cheaper now than in recent years). Plenty of people are warning me off the idea due to issues with valve seat wear etc. I just wondered if anyone has any experience of converting this particular engine to LPG? Seems as though propensity for LPG to damage an engine depends on its design.

DIY Propane Conversion for Fuel Injected Engines |
|
Hi again. I just did a search for "2008 Ford Ranger propane conversion" and found https://www.rasoenterprises.com/propane/35...?showall=1 has some information about propane conversion on a fuel injected vehicle. There may be some European companies that also sell kits (I didn't find any easily), but you would want to make sure that you can meet all local emissions standards before contemplating this expensive process. Good luck and if you do go ahead, please start a build thread so the rest of us can learn about the process. 1967 Ford Bronco 289 V8 (1968)

Hi, new member here,
I've got a 2009 D3 with the 4.0LV6. Purchased in the UK with 55,000kms, but LHD for EU use. It was hard searching for a LHD with UK reg, and so I was most concerned with service and low mileage. I actually assumed I would have found a diesel, but was pleasantly surprised test driving the petrol.
In hindsight (12 months), I'm very pleased with the 4.0V6. Drove it UK to GR fully loaded at 120+kph and it was beautiful. Climbed Alps, country lanes - no hesitation. It's very quiet and smooth, and I notice no difference when using different [above spec/premium] fuel grades.
Yes, it's a pig on fuel (±16mpg) most days, but I can do the school run, drive through beach sand, and on mountain tracks without concern. I've never had an issue with lack of available power. Frankly, I wouldn't look back (eg: diesel), but I would look to a V8, but only for macho reasons (and perhaps better fuel economy)
