LRE Peckforton yesterday
Some of the old hands may remember my young son who rode shotgun with me at the D3 only Bala weekends I used to organise.
He's a lot bigger and older (but no wiser...) now so I decided to treat him to a day at Peckforton. Because of Covid restrictions it wasn't an in-car accompaniment but a mini convoy - us in one vehicle, instructor (ex-Bala) in another.
Morning session he opted for a Range Rover Autobiography (a real "King of Bling") - one week old and absolutely beautiful. More than capable and a doddle to drive. I know the purists would hate it but having off-roaded in a Series IIa give me the extremely comfortable heated massage seats of the RR any day.....
After lunch he took the new Defender 110 out. OK not as swish but we both found it a better drive. It sounds and feels more purposeful - it felt to both of us like we imagined a next generation D3 might have been. Yes we bounced around a little more than in the RR but not so that our kidneys ended up on the seats.... Only major disappointment was the boot space and the side opening back door - prefer the D3 split gate.
We had an absolute ball - he's been through a bit lately but this gave him perma-grin - worth every penny.
And would I buy a new style Defender? Let's just say I've been checking what's in my pension pot this morning....

"...have my camera with me."
Interestingly (sort of), I was in the LR showroom yesterday dropping my LR4 off to be fixed and these two vehicles were in the showroom. The Defender (LR5... ) was $91K. The black wrap was $9K and is done in the dealership. Absolute bargain.
The blue FFRR is the 50th anniversary edition in heritage colours. I really want to like it, but don't. I think it'd be better with black wheels, for example. The interior, though, was beautiful as described above. Also, a complete bargain at that price.

The FFRR would match your Merc in your avatar. You know you want to.

$91k = £66,812... for a fully loaded HSE spec it actually cheaper there even with the 10% tax!
Could you enquire about postage costs for me please ? I want to see the sweets before I get into your windowless van... I'm not stupid!
