Lumbar support in 2006? Still there? |
|
Here in North America, our Land Rover Discovery 3s (err, LR3s) in HSE V8 configuration no longer have adjustable lumbar support. The '06 owner's guide says the lumbar support adjustment uses electric buttons on the seat like the Range Rover Sport (unlike my 2005's knob on the side.) The problem is: there are no buttons! A friend of mine is having a big issue with the comfort of the new seat due to the lack of lumbar support adjustment and might just walk away from a new purchase.
In the UK (or elsewhere), does lumbar adjustment still exist in the latest '06 builds (post-June)? If so, what type are they? Any idea what may have happened? The dealers around here have no answer.

Not sure about the spec, but the seats for a quality car are dreadful I think, especially in the base to S versions

Do you guys with the HSE's find the head restraint really does restrain and causes a pain in the neck literally?

the headrest causes me a pain at the top of neck, base of head, can't adjust and that annoys me.

Head retraint is uncomfortable unless I have the seatback at a more reclining angle but then I am supporting myself.
Might as well sit on a stool.
My '06 S has lumbar support operated by a twisting knob on the side of the seat but I can't really tell any difference no mattter how much I adjust it.

I think if I take away the minor niggles with software the biggest problem I have with the car is the seating, dreadful, but the Jimny is great, so I tow the Jimny behind now just in case the D3 breaks down and I want a comfortable seat

I find that the seats and headrests in my HSE are very comfortable. The headrest does appear to be in the correct position for me and I have never had any neck pain while sat in the car. I did sit in an S model as a passenger the other day and I found the seats to be really rigid and uncomfortable - I was glad It was only a short journey. 1996 Discovery 1 300TDI ES Biarritz Blue, sold

I'd agree, the SE seats are very comfortable, but the fabric seats in the 5 Seat, 7 Seat and S are not anyway near as comfortable. The other half tried out the rear fabric seats and was shocked at how uncomfortable they were, when compared with the leather ones in the SE. This was one of the single most factors in completely blowing our budget and going for the SE Jim

In the UK the leather seats of 2006 MY vehicles still have a knob for adjustment (at least my one does) I will have to try it and see if it works.
However. it is possible that the vehicle is in a transition state from manual to electric adjustment and there may be some vehicles during this time that have no adjustment due to matching up of electronics and seats.

That's an interesting scenario. Of course, wouldn't it be nice if Land Rover could tell potential buyers what is really going on? Maybe they are just hoping nobody will notice? And why North America only for now?

Local dealer around here received a new order of a few "loaded" HSE LR3s... none have lumbar adjustment. Brilliant. I guess we continue to be special in North America.
