Yep, sad re desk flying.
I did think of your flying exploits when passed the Bomber Harris Memorial on the London run. Might be a little before your time though. Just a smidgen.

Indeed, the number of brave aircrew lost from that command alone far exceeds the current size of the RAF. In no way do we compare to the gallantry and courage honoured by the Bomber Command memorial.Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948

Was quite poiniant walking round the CWGC cemetery in Berlin a few years ago, seeing row upon row upon row of RAF bomber crew headstones.

I’ve sat in that spot at low level. Remarkably stable airflow, even at cruise speed. On a RAF Herc you get pummelled around even at slow speed and cruising like that with the ramp down is just not possible.Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948

C-130J type, from the props. Not ugly enough for an A400.

Didn't realise the US Hercs used a panel between ramp and tail fuselage to keep the airflow out. Simple solution.
Having stood in the back of a Herc with the ramp open, I can confirm it's a bit "blustery".Visiting from rrsport.co.uk
