magnetic armour

well maybe armour is a strong word but I made up some magnetic panels to hopefully keep from getting scratched up out on the trails. I only got one side done before the damn mosquitoes decided to start feasting on me. The other side should be a snap tho.

Im eventually going to add some grey matching vinyl so its not so two toneish or maybe Ill go crazy and do orange Whistle and then maybe some land rover logos and for sure a Disco3.co.uk logo

a shot of mine in action. Dont forget to tape down all the edges use a good quality masking tape like 3m
Then you can run 90mph down the road no problems.
I am putting decals on mine

You have a template for the other side now just flip it over and trace it out.

I made my own too Smile

Got a large roll 10m of vehicle grade magnetic sheet in white, had a vinyl grey put on it to sort of match the car, but found it rather stiff in the cold weather of Keilder forrest, and i some how lost one panel (i think when the door was opened thanks flint99 for picking it up Embarassed ) total cost was about £100

I did find that they gave very slight scratches on the door panels, these were worst than the conifer tree rash Big Cry

I still have quite abit of the roll left as i only did the 4 doors (and a front wing which didn't use.)

I could see if i have enough left for somebody to make a removable DISCO3.CO.UK door sticker if anybody is interested, Idea or magnetic forum name cards for events

And there is the problem, and tiny amount of grit trapped between magnet and panel will / can cause the most amazing scratches - my Rally car was covered in scratches from sponsored events - had to remove for classic events.

other problem is where to keep them when not on the car. Mini ones are easier, back of tool box and garage door Thumbs Up

Please dont think I am dissing your efforts here lads but I had to put up a comment.

Surely all the time and effort to make and apply these everyime you go off roading isnot worth it compared to a once a year buff up?.

I appreciate we dont 'like' to srcatch our cars but when off roading it will happen - live with it and buff out...

Just my 2 cents worth, I'll run for cover now!

Hey, If people want to protect, that's up to them. Guess the advantage is that a wrap also protects from stone chips etc on the roads.

Ben (Midland Tinting) is working with a vinyl wrap manufacturer to have clear, or colour coded, full protection. Won't be cheap but less than full valet and polish if you keep the car for a year or three Thumbs Up

I see a point in using something like that. You will get some scratches not using it most off them you can polish away but I had a small incident with a hidden treestrunk in soft sand and have a nasty scratch on the lowe part off the door. With a magnetic armour I might have no scratch or maybe even more if the magnetic armour would have started moving as the whole car was a little dirty. see my avatar.

I doubt i'll ever use whats left of my 10m roll. So if the forum could use it to make something like a magnetic banner let me know;)
What you would stick it to is another matter Question

I can do the whole vehicle in under an hour and It beats the hell listening to the wife about a few scratches. It allows me to take a line I want and not here about it when I get home.

Have not got any scratches but I wash the vehicle and put it on at home before we go out.

i AM SHOCKED ONE CAME OFF. They are stiffer in the cold, did you put them on in a heated Garage, and tape them down?

how much is a full buff? plus it only works on light scratches. I have $85 in materials and when im done under an hour of time making them. It takes about 10min to put them on if the d3 is allready clean. so its worth it in my opinion
