Magnetic pick up thingy
Tesco are doing a telescopic thingy with a light and magnet on the end which will pick up that socket/nut/washer/bot/screw that you just dropped into the depths of the engine bay.
Imagine a telescopic car aerial with a screwdrive handle one end and a magnet with buit in led light (about the size of a thimble) the other. Extends to 80cm. Made by Rolson and costs just £3.Dec 04 TDV6 HSE in Tonga green with Alpaca interior.

Not sure I'd use my old man for retrieval, it's long enough but not magnetic! Lloyd "Phat Face"

I bought 12 at a market stall for £20 and gave one to every member of my shoot.
Not very durable for that appliciation, but they last a season or two.
