most independent specialists around me seem to be in the £60ish an hour bracket regardless of what brand they service
Considering my D4 has been back at the main dealer 3 times so far for "re-work" following some fairly minor warranty repairs I can't see me ever paying for that sort of hassle
It only end in to have an existing gouge on the rear bumper repaired, but came back with a huge scratch on the front bumper (the dash cam caught the body shop using it as a battering ram to shove equipment out of the way), another on the roof, the parking sensors unplugged and a dent on the lower tailgate 2013 Discovery 4 HSE Lux | 2001 Defender 90 TD5 | 2007 Prodrive RB320

The hourly rate wouldn't be so bad if they didn't quote such dubious amounts of time to do things.
Was recently quoted 2 hours for front and rear pads, when in reality a skilled mechanic with a ramp and tools would probably do it under 30 minutes!!
It takes me less than 2 hours with a trolley jack and basic tools.
That option is not available to everybody so nearly £300 for a break pad change is somewhat extortionate
30 minutes will get you a wham bang thank you mam pad change
No grease, no cleaning, no checking anything else why they are there.
That's it in a nutshell, remove carriers and clean down, calipers and check, clean and lube pins. this is the reason 30min pad changes result in uneven wear and squealing brakes.

Couldn’t agree more , I would be worried if they were all done in that time
The last time I done all the pads , handbrake shoes , adjustments etc on a TD4 it took me just under 4 x hours, by the time I got all the wheels off, tools , jack etc , then just took my time
Know if I worked in a garage I would get the sack for taking so long but just pottered along , ensuring everything was cleaned and operated correctly
Must admit , do like the ceramic brake grease instead of coppaslip
As they say do it once do it properly , ( but not 4 x hours )

30 minutes probably is a little on the quick side, but 2 hours
Part of the service included an EPB adjustment so the rear wheels would already be off!!Discovery 4 HSE
