Hi to all, can anyone help me please. I lost reverse gear on my Disco3, by that i mean I could not select it. The gate appeared to be blocked with something. I also noticed that the gear indicator on the dashboard was very slow to tell me what gear i was in, I had to be moving and an orange handbrake warning light came on.
i have taken it to my local independent land rover guy and have been told today that there are no gearbox parts available and i will have to have an exchange gearbox at £1700+vat + fitting.
Is this true, i cannot believe that there are no gearbox parts available.
Anyway I look forward to your comments, and thank you in advance.

If the gear selector is slow search for XY switch and re-calibrate it.
I would get a LR dealer opinion if this fails. SOLD - 23my Range Rover Sport D300 Dynamic SE

I can definitely not get into reverse, i forgot to say I have also lost the self centralising of the gearlever so you really have to get it right when changing gear.
It feels as if something has broken and is stopping the gearlever from going over far enough to get into reverse. Im sure reverse is still there i just cant get to it.
Anyway it is still gearbox out to get to the selector and see inside the top of the box.

As the vehicle is obviously out of warranty why dont you get a replacement box from a breaker then it will go straight in you should get one for a third of what you have been quoted. There are several breakers out there try a search on google.

Most breaker warranty items like that and they come out of low mileage insurance write offs that are mechanically sound.Any good gearbox engineering specialist should be able to repair your unit quickly and the parts will be available somewhere as I believe ZF make that gearbox, unless I am mistaken. It sounds like a selector problem which should be a relativley simple and inexpensive repair

I thought it would not be beyond the realms of repair, but apparently two land rover gearbox specialists won't touch it.
Think the best thing to do is get the gearbox out this afternoon and have a dam good look what is wrong.
I will keep you all informed to the progress.

Its definitely gearbox, they have removed all of the central console around the gearlever so there is nothing to restrict it.
