maximum tyre size with no suspension

ok I confess I posted this on the wheels sub-forum this morning but not sure if it was in the right place. What is the maximum size of tyre that can be fitted and the car still be driveable if there is a total suspension failure and the car is on the bump stops. I have 265/65/18 for off-roading (31.5 inch) and wondering...

Hi

think I read somewhere that the max size tyre was 255/50/20 with a max dia of 31.6

But the other members will be able to confirm if that’s 100% correct or not

Could you not fit bigger bump stops to allow the bigger wheels

I got 265/65/R18 BFG KO2 and often need to lower to bump stop with IID tool to enter the garage.
Proof me wrong but I doubt you could go bigger without rubbing.

I just bought a full size spare wheel.
Is it possible to fit 265/65/R18 without removing the plastic heat shield?
Some say you could lower to 5psi but has anyone done it before?
I don‘t think it would be wise to expose the shiny new rubber to the exhaust pipe heat.

I’m getting some larger tyres fitted so decided to measure the car at different heights to check for clearance. The measurements below are from the ground to the top of the inner side of the wheel arch.

Tyres are 255 55 R19
Bump stops 825mm
Access 850mm
Normal 900mm
Off-road 950mm

These aren’t exact so don’t blame me if you drop to access height and your wheel arches don’t!
