I would probably bid goodbye to the D3... It my be upetting as the car will have a lot of sentimental but it would probably be the best choice in the long run especially if your D3 has done major miles!!!! With D4 having done 14,000 miles its got loads of life left in it! Much less chance of going wrong than your older D3 and youll still get a good return on D3 when you sell it, it would probably feel worse getting rid of a 1 year old D4 after you spent a large outlay just 1 year ago..
Especially if you sell it and the older D3 starts playing up.

Sell the D3 to Character, he would look after it and you may be able to sell some of the add ons to him in the deal and strip the rest off to sell to the scavengers circling, I will have first dibs on all parts MY17 D5 1st Edition Namib Orange

Sell the D4, the interest in the market is still very strong and supply quite low, so you will get a good price. The D4 will only continue to devalue, but the D3 has lost the bulk of it's money already, so depreciation over the next few years will be low.
So in terms of cost, the D4 will still cost you a lot more, plus you will be reluctant to do the same things you do in the D3.
