Mechanical clang from rear

Hi All,

For about a week and a half I've had a very strange and quite loud clang noise coming from the rear nearside of my D3.

It seems to happen when decelerating or accelerating and turning right, it sounds like something big and metal hitting something else big and metal under pressure then releasing, think a big spring with a split in it suddenly going boing under tension. Occasionally when going over a bump I can hear something knocking as if it's loose and sounds like from the same location but not enough that I can replicate it on demand.

Gave it to a mechanic mate until I can get it booked into my local indie next week but in the meantime it's happening at least once a day (over say 20 miles of urban driving) - mechanic mate is in no way a Disco expert but can't find anything wrong.

I've just had it on my ramps on the drive and spent half an hour underneath it with a pry bar trying to find something that's moving and shouldn't and can't find anything at all.

Does anyone have any experience of similar symptoms that might be able to point me in the right direction?

Rear arms replaced last year (6,000 miles ago) ARB bushes last done about 3 years ago.

Alex

Might be the drop links, but from what you say sounds like something more substantial like the knuckle bushes. Either way, once up on a ramp it should be easily identifiable. Thumbs Up

Check the harmonic dampers.

Do they get stuck or something? What do I need to check ? The last time I gave em a bit of a swing they seemed to move freely

Have a look here, but there's plenty more if you do a search.
