Minus 8 forecast, what can I expect to happen ?
This is the first really cold weather since I have had the D3. It is parked in the garage, but I will be out in it in the morning. What can I expect to happen. Will the heater just kick in and work ?
FYI mine is a 59 plate HSE.1955 SWB Series 1 86 inch

If the air temperature is below 6 degrees; the engine temperature is less than 75 degrees C, and there is adequate fuel (Low fuel warning light NOT on) then the FBH should start of its own accord.

Presumably I will then see some smoke around the front nearside wheel arch, can I hear it ?

In ex-my D4 the FBH would run for most of the time when it was a bit parkie. After about a 250 mile drive it would still be humming away even though the car had been totally up to temp after a few miles.
I never saw any smoke (unlike 1st use of it in the D3) and it would whine/hum/howl a bit but nothing that you’d hear over the engine.
If it doesn’t come on you prob won’t even know the difference. When the FBH wouldn’t play on the D3 it didn’t make a jot of difference to the running or warming up, hence I was never fussed about getting it fixed.

ok thanks. Went out today the temp showed 4 degrees. It took quite a long time for the gauge to reach normal, not a problem though.1955 SWB Series 1 86 inch

Did the FBH start - I assume so as you haven't mentioned a problem.

At least the car has the luxury of living in a garage so no window scraping necessary.

I didn't notice it start, didn't open the lid to look, but didn't see any smoke.
Would it have warmed up quicker if the FBH was working ?
Will check more in the morning when it will be colder.
Just a thought, the temperature in the garage which is integral, would be warmer, so maybe it sensed that and didn't start................would the FBH have started even after the initial start up ?1955 SWB Series 1 86 inch

It's been between 2C and 5C here over night and today.
I've been out three times in total and each time the FBH has run. If it's running the coolant warms up quicker (and so your cabin does as well).
I don't see smoke but when you turn the engine off you'll hear a 'whine' as the FBH shuts down.
However..... I do have a remote switch for it (an old BAS unit) - I didn't use it yesterday / today but I do run it up at least once during the summer to keep the FBH clear and when I do it does smoke a fair bit on first burn.
If yours doesn't fire up (and the run criteria are met as per NJSS post) then you should search the many threads on how and what to do.I see no ships........

It is a car and it will just work as always.
Downside of leather is it draws the heat out of your rear end until the heated seats kick in.

You can normally hear them shutting down if they are running. Fairly noticeable once the engine is stopped.
