I assume that you only need it if you have misfuelled - in which case you will need professional help to pump out the tank & flush fuel lines etc.. so I reckon that I don't need one as the professionals no doubt carry one.
Or am I being over optimistic ?

It's supposed to stop you from misfuelling, so if you put in the wrong nozzle, it triggers and filling up becomes very difficult. Hopefully that triggers the person trying fill up to reconsider his/hers choice of nozzle before forcing any wrong liquid in the tank. At that point it's handy to have the tool to reset. When I picked my D4 up from the dealer they had topped it up with a can which triggered the fuel guard. It took my about 10 minutes to trickle £30 of diesel in at the pump as the nozzle kept clicking off. Fortunately I found the tool behind the left hand tool cover the next day, and was able to reset it.

I seem to think I tried this once before (in the distant past) and the nozzle simply doesn't fit - or at least the one I tried "Track day running - Don't put your foot back on the accelerator until your absolutely sure you don't have to take it off again"

I almost always use the HGV pump when I fill up at ASDA in Trafford Park. It's not as beefy as previous one they had but still bigger than standard. .

The yellow misfuel reset device is only required for older models than yours. You should have a short white funnel which you need to insert into the filler nozzle to allow you to fill from a fuel can.
