Mobile Site - beta testing

Hi all,

Well it's the moment I bet many of you thought would never happen - there is now a smartphone/mobile version of the DISCO3/4 forum.

You can switch to it from the black bar at the top of the page which appears when you are viewing on a mobile, or directly here

It is still early days, and I had wanted to get it finished before releasing to you, however I now think it's better to get people to try it and give feedback about what is good, bad, ugly or otherwise.

The basic forum functionality is there, however the following are currently missing:

  • Polls/sign ups
  • Image upload
  • PMs - pages are place but not currently mobile friendly - fixed 17/10/2014
  • Map
  • Calendar (largely unused anway)
  • Profile edit
  • Advanced searching
  • Memberlist
  • Gallery
  • Wiki
  • Shop

Some or none of these may never make the mobile site, it depends how necessary they are when on a small screen Smile

So, if you have a smartphone, please, please try the mobile site and reply with feedback here. There will be plenty wrong, so please don't hesitate to report an issue, bug or improvement - I will read all reports and attempt to implement everything wherever possible.

If you need to switch back to the normal site, it is available from the menu icon (top left), then "Desktop Site".

A link to reply to this thread is also available in the menu as "Send Feedback".

Hi Martin

Great news, thanks - here's two bugs to get you started.

1. Text on stickies overlaps post count on screen, I'll attach a screenshot.

2. Once loaded the ?mobi=1 flag is sticky on the desktop site. You have to send ?mobi=0 to undo it

Hi Martin,

On an iphone 5 (mine at least) no black bar appears at the top.

So the link for the mobile site appears right at the very bottom left of the screen (as pic). Problem here is that when you touch that part of the screen the "back" button pops up from the browser - so it's quite difficult to click.

Looks good though!

Cheers

OK well the link shouldn't be down there, but I'm not lucky enough to have an iPhone 5 to test Big Cry

The phone browser emulation I'm using seems to show it OK. I have however reloaded the site CSS - can you check now please?

Thanks, I need to make the long thread titles fade under the post counts.

It sounds like the ?mobi= is working OK - you use =1 it once to enter the mobile site (from my link in 1st post) then to exit mobile mode then use =0 OR the "Desktop Site" link from the mobile site menu.

Is that how it's working or not?

Yes that works fine, I'd not spotted the 'desktop site' link in the pulldown. I did it manually by guessswork... Smile

RTFP Laughing

The overlapping text issue is now sorted all being well - a report from Windows Phone would be handy Smile

Now fixed (code typo), you will get a blue button at the bottom when viewing a forum.

Looks ok on a Nokia 930. Can I take pictures and add to a post? Never cracked this on previous windows phones.

Photos is something that is coming. One issue I have is that I don't have the stack of mobiles required to develop for each platform and the variations involved. Sad
